Shakugan no Shana II #06 — Fie On the House of Shana!

November 8th, 2007

“Well, that was different.”
“Did you enjoy it?”
“No.”
“Then it wasn’t different.”
“Aha ha ha ha ha ha…”

Impressions:

When did this goddamned moping start? Was it really only three weeks ago? Or should I say… did we really just suffer through three entire weeks where not a single bloody thing happened and have returned right back to where we were at the end of episode 3? Maybe it’d be okay if a single episode prior, the two space cadets hadn’t declared war on each other and been fighting like cats and dogs, then switched to being completely passive at a greater turn of speed than Rosie O’Donnel at a buffet. Hopefully the DVDs will just rewrite these past three episodes by replacing Shana with Shana-tan, and Yoshida with a ham on rye. I think I can get behind that particular brand of retcon.

Aaaaaaaaanyway, as you may have guessed from the above, the only good part of this episode is that the nonsense is finally over and maybe this action show will finally get some action. How pathetic is it that a show about succubi with multiple-personality disorder has more and better fight scenes than a show about people who set themselves and others on fire with swords? At least the preview for the next episode seems to hint that they might actually fight something that isn’t a clown.

Or a man on wheels.

Mostly though, this makes me feel bad for ever criticizing Prism Ark or Jyushin Enbu. Those shows had more action in their first episodes than Shana has had in its first six. What is with the total dearth of (non-mecha) action shows this season? It’s killing me here.

Screw summarizing:
Ogata heals Yoshida by declaring war on Margery for her man and Shana heals herself by realizing that Hekonoe is an inept joke.

There.

That’s it.

Not a single damn thing about Flame Hazes, Crimson Denizens, melon bread, bathing lolis, Keynesian Economic Theory, or any of the reasons people watch the show. Margery wasn’t even drunk enough to make it entertaining. Or maybe she was too drunk. I forget how exactly it works with her. I did enjoy the mini-smirk on Yuji’s face at the end as a hint of futur– whoops. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here to when the show should actually be good and about demon lords instead of whiny little brats. Let’s at least step up the pace here and get to Pheles. She’s already in the OP, let’s have her in the show already.

Is this “Konoe arc” in the novels or this is simply an awful “filler arc”… this is the marvelous Shakugan No Shana that was before?

  • HInano says:

Thank you, your summary – or lack there of – has convinced me to drop this show.

@AGear_to_Ax: It is indeed a filler arc… makes me wonder were exactly they are going with this story.

  • Calawain says:

Grumpy muppets are definitely better than this show is right now.

This arc ends next episode anyway. Thank you Newtype! I would’ve felt tempted drop if you didn’t show me the way with your spoilers.

  • Totali says:

So what did you think of the random sky shot at the end of the episode? Wasn’t that awesome? I lovvveee the random perspective shifts too. omg~ SNS best love comedy of the season!111

“Flame Hazes, Crimson Denizens, melon bread, bathing lolis, Keynesian Economic Theory” i think we should be thankfull they didn’t launch into Keynesian thoery, if the show started suddenly talking about the advantages of fiscal policy it would make it even more boring…then again maybe not with the way this series is going
