Impressions:
Not a bad episode, even if it didn’t really cover anything aside from Hanyuu becoming corporeal. I still think that Rika losing her memory of the previous arc is really really stupid and a very shoehorned-in way to allow some flashback later and yet more “destiny will be changed!” speeches. If the first season was characterized by people going insane, this season has been characterized by people pontificating at length over their hatred of fate. What did she ever do to them? Yes yes yes, Hanyuu was cute and all. That’s what she is. Her whole existence is there to give people yet another creature to squeal at and attempt to glomp, nuzzle and any number of other words that are probably not suitable for a PG-13 publication. I also found Irie amusing. “Wait, Takano might be a mass murderess? No way… on the other hand… she did try to dissect a living child, laughs gleefully when people are murdered, has no morals whatsoever and put rat poison in my coffee… waaaaaait a minute.”
Hanyuu narrates that this is the world that destiny will be changed. She will finally…
At the school, a new transfer student is introduced, Furude Hanyuu (nano desu). She stammers through her introduction while Rena glares at her with her evil cute-demon eyes. Everybody thinks she’s cute too, but Rena loses herself and tries to carry off Hanyuu.
After class, Mion announces the interview session for the new kid. All the kids ask her the usual things, her favorite food and whatnot. Mion gets up in Hanyuu’s face, making Satoko gutpunch her. Rena slips in during the distraction and carries off Hanyuu again.
Rena is now tied to a chair (in full bondage ties no less) and sobbing while the questions for Hanyuu continue. Rena turns more serious for a second and asks Keiichi if they have some kind of feeling about the girl. Keiichi is surprised as Rena continues, saying that Hanyuu seems like she was lonely.
Rika appears besides Rena and tells her that she’s a very nice person. It was Rika’s wish too for Hanyuu to come here and be friends. This energizes Rena and she bursts out of her ropes and carries off Hanyuu yet again.
A little later the club activities begin. Hanyuu walks in, but can’t bring herself to say something, but asks Rika instead. Rika refuses to help her crony out, so Hanyuu blurts out that she wants to join their club. Rika applauds her resolution. Mion and Keiichi make fun of her, but Hanyuu says that she’s serious and she absolutely won’t lose, no matter what she has to do. Everybody is a little surprised and taken back by her sudden serious nature.
Mion announces the game… Old Maid. What is with the Japanese and Old Maid? She does warn Hanyuu that the cards are ragged and they all know the signs of the bad card. Hanyuu agrees anyway.
The game nears its final conclusion. Hanyuu is down to two cards and Mion calls out that she knows which is which, letting Rena avoid the Maid. It’s down to Hanyuu and Keiichi. Mion distracts Keiichi, letting Hanyuu pick correctly and forcing Keiichi into the penalty game.
In the city, some police, including Akasaka have a meeting and hand out reports. They’re a bit annoyed at having to deal with all this. Akasaka thumbs through a report, but stops with surprise when he looks down and sees Irie’s name… and Hinamizawa.
After the eyecatch, Keiichi is in drag once again, this time with cat ears. Even Hanyuu gets in on making fun of him. Keiichi flips out and chases them all away except for Rika. The two talk for a moment about how Hanyuu was always playing with them, which confuses Keiichi a little bit. Rika “ni-pahs” to get out of it and Hanyuu screams to further drop the subject.
Apparently, Hanyuu fell off the path and down a small enbankment. Tomitake and Takano are there too, checking up on the zonked Hanyuu. They immediately notice Keiichi’s dress, to his annoyance. They tell the kids that Hanyuu’s fine. She comes to and looks around. She sees Takano, who smirks at her, and turns dark. Rika introduces Hanyuu to Takano cheerfully, but Hanyuu is paralyzed in fright.
That night, Rika (Dark Mode) can’t believe that Takano is evil. She doesn’t remember any of it. Hanyuu insists that Takano and the Yamainu are behind all of it. Everything that happens is because Takano wants her killed.
Rika asks why Takano, but Hanyuu doesn’t know. She does say that everybody fought against her, but lost. Rika is surprised that everybody worked together. Hanyuu confirms it and says that this is why she gained the resolution to fight.
Rika is surprised and annoyed at forgetting something like this. Hanyuu thinks that it’s because she’s running out of power. This will probably be the last world. Rika does admit that she thought it was strange that Hanyuu became a transfer student in the world. Hanyuu continues on, with her speech about defeating Takano.
Rika says that she’s honestly surprised, but understands. Like Hanyuu, she just sat back and watched, but now wants to save the world. Hanyuu agrees and tells her that this place is special and she will protect it as its god.
Akasaka and the rest of the Hinamizawa police force are having a meeting. Akasaka tells them that Rika is going to be killed.
They wonder how he knows these things. He’s forced to admit that she asked him to save her. They’re still skeptical but with the information that it’s connected to the outstanding “Oyashiro’s Curse” cases, Ooishi is willing to give it a shot, even if he still doesn’t understand why Rika would be targetted next.
The next day, Irie ‘attacks’ the three lolis on way to school, offering them a ‘Maid Present’ later.
Chie ruins his fun, but Rika does tell him that she needs to talk to him.
In his clinic, she tells him that she knows of the plan to quarantine and slaughter the village if she died. There’s one other thing that she needs to tell him, that Takano Miyo is working towards making the purification plan happen. Irie can’t believe it, but thinking more, he does remember the times when Takano was… a bit overzealous.
Rika heads back to class. Everybody asks her if she’s okay, but Rika tells them that they were just talking about comics. Satoko says that she’s never seen Rika reading them.
This lie lasts about 15 seconds, as then we cut to them in a different part of the class with Rika asking them a “what-if I’m going to be killed” hypothetical. Mion isn’t worried though. Now that they know the problem, solving it is simple.
She sketches on the blackboard a sample chain of events. A leads to B which leads to Rika getting killed. She crosses off the connection between A and B, which then eliminates the final even of Rika’s death. Rika is a bit worried, but everybody is with her and Rika wants to be with all of them too.
After the ED, evil Tanaka Rie Satan-Woman talks to Takano on the phone. Everything is going according to plan. She tells Takano to keep her updated, it’s all for her grandfather, etc etc. She calls somebody else and tells them that everything is going accoding to plan there too.

Actually if I didn’t hear wrong.. Rika tells the gang that she’s drawing a manga and that she asked Irie for advice on how to continue it.. later on she alludes to the situation she herself is in by instead presenting it as ‘a story i’m writing about a village and how everyone in it will die when the Queen Carrier dies’ to the gang.. Rika says she’s not sure why the ‘bad person(s)’ in the manga would kill the Queen Carrier and what Mion writes on the board is a possible explanation for a motive – that within an shadowy organization there exists Groups A and B which are struggling for power. Group A would be blamed for the disaster the Queen Carrier’s death would spark so Group A will kill the Queen Carrier to discredit Group A.
