Shakugan no Shana II #01 — The Melancholy of Sakai Yuuji
October 4th, 2007
You suck, Yuuji.
Impressions:
I could have really done without the ten minutes of Yuuji giving recap. REALLY done without it. The first half of the episode was dreadfully boring. Things picked up a lot more towards the end, thankfully, although they did reuse the twins for EVIL-Hanyuu’s (auauau~) initial attack on Yuuji. I’m not sure that I could have taken a full episode of staring at his head while he talked about the first season. What kind of evolutionary purpose to those horns serve anyway? It’s not like she’ll be headbutting anybody. Maybe they’re just there to grip when… you know what… forget I said anything.
Anyway, if you’re here, then you’ve watched the first season and are interested in the second. Outside of the recap, recap and more recap, it was an enjoyable episode that brought us right back to where we left the last season. Shana and Yoshida are still being cranky at eachother, Yuuji is still a pretty spineless wimp, Marjory and her cronies are still around and she’s still a drunkard. Life as usual for them all.
There’s not much else going on for Thursdays aside from the big names. I’m told that Ninomiya’s actually being broadcast on Thursdays, but that’s not exactly a big draw. I’m helped in my decision by the fact that I’m going to be out of town next Thursday through Sunday, so I don’t actually have to decide for a couple weeks. At the moment though, unless Ninomiya or YUA really wow me next week, Shana’s the default choice, even though I’m certain that my Japanese will be nowhere good enough to keep up with the random non-words they like to use. Still, I’m in it for the flaming swords and giant evil bears.
No summaries for the first episodes. I write as I watch, and I don’t know if I’ll care about a show until after the first episode.
Shana II OP (yes, it really does cut off like that)
