Amazing Detective Labyrinth #03 — Clamp? Is That You?

October 17th, 2007

I think it’s been at least 5 years since I last saw somebody destroy the Tokyo Tower.

Impressions:

The quickie summary is that it’s a more full introduction to Mayuki’s school life and all the idiot school kids. As expected, shota-boy and his childish ineptitude at athletics is a hit with the ladies instead of being a sad embarassment to the gender. One of the twins even has a crush on a girl that is later further seduced by Mayuki’s violin skills. The twins then take Mayuki and and whose-her-face-the-other-annoying-girl through a ton of debris and up the ruined Tokyo Tower. As they all marvel at the beauty of the destroyed city, there’s an explosion at the struts and the thing starts to collapse. That’s what they get for not calling in French Engineering to build the monstrosity.

If I had to sum up the things that I liked about the first two episodes of the show, absolutely none of them would include the other school children who are just along for a ride. Sexy Chinese Assassins and explosions in dystopic Tokyo? Yes, enjoyable. The Days of Our Shota Lives? Not even close.

As you may have gathered from the above, I was not particularly entranced with this episode. No real peaks at the intrigue of the world, no intelligent drama, and most egregiously, no sexy-bot Byakko. I really cannot bring myself to care about Mayuki’s schoolkid tagalongs, or his amazingly fluffy dog. I guess it could have been worse… maybe an episode on the life of his maid. Or they could have just gone up to Tokyo Tower and then went home. The prospect of spending another episode with all the schoolkids instead of Byakko and the adult affairs doesn’t please me. Even with them all trapped in a 4,000 ton collapsing iron tower, I can’t imagine they’d kill any of the kids off. Really though… why do we need two white haired kids? At least one twin is expendable if not both. Let’s see it happen, dammit.
