Impressions:
Dokuro’s TV series is mostly more of the same from the OVAs. I did notice that Dokuro is a lot less shrilly irritating and sadistic (at least so far) in this incarnation… not to mention that he hair’s now blue, Sakura and his classmates look like they’ve lost about 3 years of their lives and are even more of a shota and loli squad, and whose-her-face, Shizuki, has had her “whore dial” cranked up about 5 notches and there’s a lot more fanservice in general. I’m not a huge fan of the remixed OP though. Saeko Chiba doesn’t so much sing this variation as angrily yell it. It sounds rather painful for all involved.

It’s mostly the same type of over the top bathroom humor and bloodshed from the OVA, so if you enjoyed that, rest assured that it’s still around. There is a noticeable difference in the animation quality and general visual style, which is to be expected going from OVA and TV series. There’s still a lot of Dokuro/Zakuro violence, just much less of it ends with Sakura headless and spewing blood everywhere. They still manage to put a lot of stuff in though… you don’t even want to think about what was going through my mind while Sakura was washing Dokuro’s hair and she was saying how good it felt while white foam was flying everywhere.

There’s a relatively good chance that this will replace Kenichi for me on Saturdays. I still like Kenichi and all, but it’s always been a guilty pleasure at best and you can only write “Kenichi trains, repeats his mantra of fighting, then wins with wildly fluctuating animation quality” so many times before you start to twitch and foam at the mouth.
