Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS #17 — Holy Bloody Hell

July 22nd, 2007

Vicious beatdowns for all! Little TSAB Flags for some!

Impressions:

This episode was amazing. If there’s anything the first two seasons lack, it’s intrigue, mysteries, and… well… plot movement, and this episode gave us all three in spades. I’m sure we’ll have a cooldown episode or two after it, but my gods, Riot 6 is totally torched, Subaru and Ginga are cyborgs like the Numbers, and we still haven’t seen the Einherjar deployed yet. I am so looking forward to how they wrap things up going into the final stretch.

As always caps updated tomorrow (or whenever a better raw appears). Also, I’ll be uploading a couple videos of at least Subaru going insane and Erio’s fight, so check back in a couple hours for that. Everything’s up that’ll be up.

First Contact: Numbers Vs Cadets

Berserker Mode Subaru

The Final Defenders of Riot 6

Summary:

During the intro, we learn that there are twelve total numbers (11 deployed), and the two objectives are to take out the two facilities they’re attacking and capture the Emperor, with the secondary mission of capturing the Type-0.

Once the episode proper starts, we see Vita and Zest fighting. Vita notices that Zest and Agito’s unison isn’t as powerful as their’s, but they’re very powerful and experienced, so Vita doesn’t have much of an advantage. Zest needs to finish it off quickly though, so tells Agito to use their Full Drive. Agito refuses at first, saying that it’ll cut his life, but then relents and powers up.

Over with the cadets, Nove (on a wing road no less) and Wendy (Uendi?) are having problems fighting Erio and Teana because of Tea’s illusions. Caro is basically feeding magic to Teana nonstop to keep it going. Subaru and Erio manage to get the drop on them thanks to the distraction and Erio uses a Thunder Rage to blast all the drones and Wendy while Subaru knocks down Erio. They then scatter with the illusions also acting as decoys. Cinque calls in to say that she’s met up with another Type-0 and needs help… the Type-0 is Ginga.

Schach meets up with the Aces and explains that they’ve forced the main doors open. The cadets meet up with the Aces and hand off Raging Heart and Bardiche, but Subaru suddenly realizes that she’s lost contact with Ginga. They decide to split up. The Lightnings are to head back to Riot-6 HQ, which is now formally under attack, while the Stars are to find Ginga and secure the area.

Riot-6 is torched. Zafira and Shamal are the only people left while another Number (Otto) stands over them. She uses her Ray Storm to attack, while Shamal blocks. Zafira tries to attack, but another number (Diddo) slams him back down. Otto prepares to attack and Hayate suddenly senses that something happened to them.

The non-combatants of Riot-6 are huddled in an area, protected by sniper Vice, who is shooting down drones from long range as they approach.

Team Lightning is flying to Riot-6 when they’re suddenly attacked by Trei and Sette. Fate blocks the attack and orders her cadets to head to HQ. Erio realizes that they’re stuck on Fried, so can’t fight in the air, and takes off. Fate transforms Bardiche to the Zanber form and gets ready to fight.

Returning to Vita and Zest, he suddenly senses new combatants coming. Rein confirms that Signum is on the way. Zest is ready to retreat, but Agito wants to attack Rein. Vita sees Agito’s attack forming and flies to stop her, but Zest gets in the way and destroys Eisen. As Vita crashes into the ground, Agito is flipping out, and Rein is completely knocked out. Signum arrives to guard them, but the other two are already gone.

The Stars are en route to Ginga’s last position. Subaru gets there first and finds three numbers standing over a bloody and decimated Ginga, about to load her into the container. With a beep, Subaru’s eyes turn yellow, and then glow while she releases a huge burst of energy.

On the flip side, Subaru demands they give Ginga back while chargings about 5 cartridges. She rushes forward, breaking her roller blades in the process. Nove starts shooting at her, but Subaru just shrugs it off and slams Nove back. Wendy gets on her surfboard/crossbow thing, and Cinque confronts Subaru. She uses her exploding knives to keep Subaru from moving while the others take off.

Subaru starts beating relentlessly on Cinque’s shield until she destroys it and tries to follow. Cinque had more knives hidden in the air that almost get Subaru, but she puts up a shield just in time. Unfortunately, she didn’t block all of them and her arm is torn open, showing machinery underneath. Subaru keeps coming, but Sei leaps up and uses her phasing to take Cinque out safely. Mach Calibur finally stops working from all the damage and Subaru collapses as her eyes revert and Nanoha and Teana arrive.

Back at Riot-6, Vice is exhausted. As Lutecia appears, he has a flashback to a mission with a hostage. he took a shot… and suddenly sees an image of the girl again over Lutecia (assumably he missed and hit the hostage). She wastes no time and blasts him and the rest of the non-coms.

Erio and Caro are just now getting to Riot-6. They see Lutecia and crew about to take Vivio away when suddenly Erio remembers his past. He was an artificial human created in the image of  the son of a dead rich family. Eventually, he was taken away from his parents.

He loses it and changes Strada to it’s second form and rushes to attack in the air. Garyuu is there to fight him, but using Strada’s booster, he’s able to stay in the air. He attacks again, but Dido appears and sucker punches him while Caro and Fried are bound by Otto and plummet from the air.

Fate is at least holding her own in her battle though, and tries to interrogate them. They respond respectfully, and say that she’s like them and ask her to join their side. Fate says that she’s nothing like them, and tells them that Scaglietti’s actions are unforgiveable. They take off, saying that Fate can’t win.

Back at Riot-6, Uno is giving a final warning to the Riot-6 members that the drones are going to raze the building and kill all within. Caro loses it and summons Voltaire, who proceeds to torch every damn drone in the area.

Scaglietti appears on a broadcast to the gathered TSAB members and says that the attack today was the result of his group developing technology as it was meant to be developed even though others call it illegal. He says that he kept deaths to a minimum, and is prepared to take in those who wish to be. Carim says that the prophecy has now come to light, but Hayate says that Riot-6 ain’t out of it yet.

  • AGear says:

Amazing, I know it!!!! Nanoha StrikerS will show more that her predecesors, only we need to wait patiently. Finally the things are better and the action is awesome. Good!!! But I fail in my attemping to discovery what will happen…

  • Fencedude says:

    Holy Shit.

    Just…damn.

  • Troyden says:

This is one of the most exciting episode. quite sad that nanoha didn’t use starlightbreaker. haha. And i want MASSIVE WONDERS

  • Gamefag says:

Hey Fence, deleted any topics that you didn’t like today? LOLO

And this episode is pretty awesome.

  • kiryuu says:

    o_O;;

this looks like absolutely no holds barred.

makes you wonder how they’re going to finish it with 7 (or is it 9?) eps left.

  • anon says:

    yuribot ftw

  • Kurogane says:

Sadly, the next few episodes will be “oh we got beaten” emo-ness and recovery time.

StrikerS likes to peak as high as they can, then go back down to boredom.

  • kiryuu says:

The whole Ginga/Subaru thing brings up another interesting point.. We saw them both a few/several years previously when they were little. Makes you wonder if they are cyborgs that grow (is that possible?) or if it plays with everything else that is going on behind the scenes that we haven’t seen yet. From last week’s comments I don’t think anyone saw what happened this week coming ^^

  • AGear says:

Cyborgs grow up, They say “Fate is like to us” so, Fate is a artificial mage of the Project F and Erio too, so I think, both of them are cyborgs as well and they grow… (Maybe I’m wrong).

  • Aroduc says:

Pretty sure they just meant that Fate was a product of Project F like them, not actual cyborgs. Whether or not Subaru and Ginga are totally artificial like the Numbers, or are simply prototypes or what-have-you that were originally human remains up in the air. I’m leaning towards that theory though. Whatever happened with their mother left them as the prototypes for Scaglietti to make his own totally artificial mages later.

That’s just total speculation though. The numbers are always ‘turned on’ (yellow eyes) though, so there is at least some major difference between the Nakajimas and them.

  • Kaito says:

Yay, my theory of Ginga getting killed sort-of came true.

  • Tokkan says:

And if you look closely, Ginga’s Revolver Knuckle is not on her hand as she’s been taken away, Nove had stepped on it.

  • Aroduc says:

Which brings us to our next question, when you’re trying to life a body while wearing rollerblades, don’t you think you could find somewhere better to stand than on top of a discarded gauntlet?

  • Tokkan says:

    >Sadly, the next few episodes will be “oh we got beaten” emo-ness and recovery time.

“Next few” is a bit inaccute, according to the spoilers from Newtype that I’ve been reading.

  • Tokkan says:

    >innaccute

This ia typo, I mean “inaccurate”.

  • Fencedude says:

Hey Fence, deleted any topics that you didn’t like today? LOLO

Kindly keep any problems you have with me off of other people’s blogs, ok?

Anyway, as for Project F and the Numbers…well, there are two distinct types of artificial life here.

First we have the products of Project F; Fate, Erio and Vivio. They are essentially clones, given the memories of whoever’s DNA they were grown from. According to Lindy in A’s, Fate is fully Human, just not born normally.

Now, as for the Numbers and Subaru, they have been referred to as “Sentoukijin”, “Combat Cyborgs”, and it seems that they are (rather obviously) not fully human. They are at least partially Organic, have been shown to bleed, and Ginga and Subaru at least have actually aged. So they are very, very advanced cyborgs.

Now, this raises interesting questions about their “mother” who was apparently killed in an incident involving Sentoukijin, and judging from the fact that she looks just like Ginga, probably DOES have some form of biological connection to her daughters.

  • STi says:

Did anyone wonder how they managed to fit Ginga in that small box?

Oh, and Ginga’s Revolver Knuckle was left behind, right?
    Hmm…Dual Knuckle Subaru maybe?

  • Anonymous says:

OH YES!!!! My guess that Carol is summoning her Big Black dragon is true! And this is by far the BEST BEST BEST episode for Nanoha Series!!!! THUMBS UP!!!!

  • AGear says:

This episode says to me that there are people in the TSAB and rich families supporting the development of “combat cyborgs” for replacement death people… And Jail Scaglietti have now a type-0 artificial mage, Maybe he will upgrade the combat cyborgs after analizing type-0, or only he will upgrade Vivio with the type-0 data…

  • Fencedude says:

Read what I posted above. “Artificial Mages” (such as Vivio, Erio and Fate) and “Combat Cyborgs” (the Numbers, Subaru, Ginga) are two distinct things. People are confusing one for the other when they have made it very clear that they work under different principles.

Did anyone wonder how they managed to fit Ginga in that small box?

I think they may have hacked a limb or two off…

Oh, and Ginga’s Revolver Knuckle was left behind, right?
    Hmm…Dual Knuckle Subaru maybe?

This was a given from the very moment it was revealed there were two Knuckles. Anyone who didn’t see this coming before the series even aired really needs to take a refresher on “Anime Cliches 101”

  • Aroduc says:

“If anything exists in multiple parts, they will be combined before the series is over.”
    :-P

  • -Z- says:

furthermore, it also continues with the GGG references subaru is often a medium for.

  • Anonymous says:

Jail Scaglietti is a combat cyborg too? (he have the same eyes of a combat cyborg)

  • Ume says:

Good ep, loved Subaru in the ep. Also, the dragon reminded me of Ryukuoh…

  • sage says:

Did anyone wonder how they managed to fit Ginga in that small box?

    Detachable limbs?

Mmmm… hot amputee se-Wait forget it.

  • Fencedude says:

Good ep, loved Subaru in the ep. Also, the dragon reminded me of Ryukuoh…

Funny how that works. I was a tad dissapointed that Caro didn’t have it drop a mountain on the Gadgets.

  • Ronin says:

A few notes from watching the fansub (Chinese) :

    * Subaru has her own ‘cyborg’ power which is activated by being in contact with an object.
    * Scaglietti is technically Fate and Erio’s father, as Scaglietti pioneered “Project F”.

I will look forward to the scene where Subaru combines both of the power knuckles and perform a ‘Heaven and Hell’ attack. Victory goes to the one with Courage!!

  • Syaoran Li says:

Bloody hell… so Subaru and Ginga were Numbers, well Cyborgs, chikuso… ohh men.

  • Anonymous says:

I had strange idea here: Given that everything in Strikers seem to be interconnected in one way or another, what would the chances be of the 11th Relic core Lutecia is looking for being inside… Subaru?

  • Fencedude says:

I still think that Raging Heart is made from a Relic.

  • arkxkra says:

wow, this episode is awesome !
FInally have a good fight ~ but episode riot 6 totally lost, but nvm still got next round.

  • loki says:

hoho can’t wait for the ep.that Subaru gets her revenge

  • […] and Gin-nee ♥! Especially with the AWESOME episode 17. The magazine also comes with a detachable StrikerS The Comics (Episode 8 #3.5 – New Days) which […]

  • slavik says:

bloody hell if jail scaglietti was a no good send the ghost recon team
