History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi #38 — Nyaaaa~n

July 7th, 2007

I think the animators were drunk this week.

Impressions:

This episode was… something else. Art was inconsistent and generally bad. Animation was all over the place. Miu’s chest flopped around more than it had the previous 37 episodes, etc. It was like a totally different animation team was at the helm, and usually it looked terrible. That said, we did get a rather nice Kisara fight scene out of it, so it’s hard to be all that mad, but still… there were some goddamn ugly faces through the episode.

Kisara’s Fight

Summary:

The day after Kenichi’s raid on the sumo dude, Thor is getting beaten to a pulp by the rest of Ragnarok for his failure. Thor talks back to them about the Shinpaku Alliance being true allies to eachother instead of Ragnarok. Kisara especially feels nothing but scorn for the Shinpaku alliance and wanders off.

An especially poorly drawn Kenichi is walking home from school with Miu and Shigure’s mouse, the mouse having eaten his lunch that day. They spot some form of cat gremlin in a box, and a really freakily animated swinging-boobs Miu goes starry eyed at it. Then they see Kisara come out of the convenience store and kick the box into an alley. Miu says that she’s going to kill her and follows. Kenichi tries to stop her, but she’s possessed at this point and throws him down repeatedly, so he follows obediently.

Inside the alley though, Kisara is just feeding the cat and acting all cutesy herself. Kenichi opens his idiot mouth and lets on that they’re watching her. Kisara freaks out briefly, and tries to play off that she bought the cat food to eat herself, but they say that they don’t really care. She imagines Niijima getting wind of it and distributing fliers though, and challenges them to a fight. Before they can start, the cat gets in the way and wanders out into the road. It’s nearly run over by a pair of random hoodlums, but Miu dives to grab the cat while Kisara kicks the bike over. However, a bunch of Freya’s spies are watching on and reports that Kisara is consorting with the Shinpaku.

Back at the dojo, Miu is depressed and sighing over the cat because Kisara took the cat home. Kenichi couldn’t because of his sister’s allergy and Miu feared what the masters would do with it.  She tries to sneak out to see the cat, but Shigure is there to demand food. Ma says that he’ll prepare the food for tonight while Shigure throws shuriken at him and Miu runs off to go check on the cat. Kenichi, on the other hand, is kicked in the crotch by Sakaki and tickled by Akisame to try to get him to say what’s up with Miu. Ouch. Just… ouch.

Kisara meanwhile is looking over the cat, but because of how she’s lurking behind it, everybody is frightened off instead of adopting it. Miu comes up and the two start arguing about how to take care of the cat, but it starts raining and they wander off to take refuge from the rain. Miu tells Kisara about how she used to love the cats that hung around while she was travelling with her grandfather. Kisara shares her memory of getting a kitten for one of her birthdays that she thought she would always be with.

Kisara puts the cat into her shirt to keep it warm while Miu runs off to go fetch umbrellas. As soon as Miu’s gone, Freya’s troops appear, ready to attack.

Kenichi has meanwhile spilled the beans to the masters about the cat, and they seem to be relatively accepting of having it around and understand the responsability, so he goes running off to tell Kisara and Miu.

Kisara is squaring off with the girls who tell her that rebellion against Ragnarok will not be permitted. They start fighting and Kisara is winning pretty handily despite still having the cat in her shirt, until she loses her grip and takes a blow, and then another blow sends the kitten flying and she has to keep taking shots to protect the cat.

Freya’s goons continue to taunt her, but the cat has been injured and needs attention. They attack again and she tries to leap to safety, but is snagged by the chain user.

Miu and Kenichi have finally met up and they hear the yelling. Miu leaps to save the cat while the femme-goons start going after Miu. Kenichi stands by like the idiot that he is. Roll credits.
