History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi #39 — Kenichi Versus the Sailor Soldiers

Don’t run from the sailor scouts… embrace them!
Impressions:
Back to good old Kenichi mediocrity. Most of the time when this show drifts away from the comedy and tries to be serious, it falls on its face from its lack of an animation budget. At least we were back to the normal art and animation team this week, and while there were a couple funny Shigure scenes, it really wasn’t enough to stay particularly interesting.
Summary:
When last we left our girls, instead of tossing the cat into a safe place and then kicking the crap out of the sailor scouts, they were running around with the cat. Kisara tells the Dairy Cow to run, and trips the sailor girl who tries to follow her. The rest of the girls start stomping on our Valkyrie in response, so Kenichi jumps in and palm shots the two off of Kisara before realizing that he hit a girl.
They recognize him, and decide to take him on, but he goes into a speech about how they shouldn’t be fighting their own comrade. They attack anyway, and he just keeps dodging and refuses to hit them again. When he tells them as much, they get pissed and jump to attack, but Freya is right behind him and knocks him to the ground.
She takes over the situation and instructs them to deal with Kenichi and Kisara before taking off again. Shigure’s mouse, which was in Kenichi’s pocket takes this chance to run off. As the girls start stomping on Kenichi again, he pops up, and freaks them out with his indestructability. He tries to attack them once again, but stops shy and just can’t do it. They move to attack again, but he grabs Kisara and runs off.
Back at Ryouzanpaku, Shigure has set the kitchen on fire. Ma rescues it, but she’s already created a series of strange foods that the rest of the masters fear. Suddenly, she senses something and starts to leave. The other masters ask what, and she says that it’s something with Kenichi, but she doesn’t know what.
As the sailor scouts continue chasing Kenichi, they call for reinforcements. Likewise, Shigure’s mouse sets off a firework.
Miu’s at the vet with the cat. To the surprise of nobody, the cat is just slightly bludgeoned and will be fine. Miu is relieved and the vet doesn’t even charge her because of her kindness towards a stray.
The chase is still on, as insane Kenichi runs from the hot women, at least until he’s cornered by the reinforcements. Once again, they try to attack, but shuriken block them and Shigure leaps out to be their opponent.Â
The sailor scouts try to attack Shigure from behind with a whip, but she slices it up a few times over. Kenichi tries to warn the girls to run and tells Shigure to go easy on them, but they ready their weapons anyway and Shigure likewise starts giving off a killing aura. They recognize this, but think that they can’t back down.
Kisara gets up before they can attack Shigure and returns to the fight. She tells Kenichi and Shigure that the fight is her’s and her’s alone, and remembers back to Freya defeating her in the past. Shigure interrupts the flashback with a chop to the head and says that Kisara is in no condition to fight.
Shigure starts to draw her sword again and Kenichi stops her. So she moves to a sickle, which Kenichi also vetos. Then we go to a wooden spoon, which Kenichi okays. Using it, she instantly destroys all their weapons. She tells them that anything can become a weapon with the right skills and training, which makes them remember Kisara saying something similar.
The head sailor scout throws down the scraps of her weapon and says that Shigure is speaking nonsense, but then all their clothes start showing slashes throughout and they realize how dangerous Shigure really was. Finally, they run off screaming, covering themselves.
Kisara wakes up and stumbles off back to Ragnarok right as Miu comes running up. Kisara is a bit pissed off and busts into Ragnarok HQ to settle things with Freya, but Loki and his clones are there as well. She throws a kick that stops short right in front of Freya’s unmoving face. The Lokis try to attack her, but she fends them off, and then says that this is her resignation from Ragnarok and leaps out the window. Loki is about to chase her, but Freya stops him and thinks that every person who comes in contact with Shinpaku leaves Ragnarok. Loki and #20 also have a short planning session right after.
Kenichi and his buxom ladies make it back to Ryouzanpaku in time to eat dinner with the rest of them, but Miu is worried about Kisara and the cat.
On the way to school the next day, they find Kisara waiting outside the gates. She asks Miu about the cat’s health and tells her that the cat will be coming to live at Ryouzanpaku and to visit whenever she wants. Kenichi tells them that the cat actually already had an owner, and the two rush over to the vet’s to meet the kid and say good bye to the cat. Kenichi tries to apologize, but Kisara puts him in a full nelson while Miu tickles him as punishment.
