Doujin Work #01 – First Episode and We’re Already at the Hentai

July 3rd, 2007

Genshiken with cuties instead of otaku? I can dig it.

Alright, so, to be perfectly fair, it’s more of Comic Party without the doofus male lead, which is also fine.

Impressions:

It certainly seems to start off with a bang, all noise, parodies, jokes, and growing boobs through the OP… and it takes them until only the five minute mark to bring up H-manga and another minute or two before poor Osana is selling them. Osana is a pretty fun character, but Tsuruyi’s deadpan delivery really didn’t work for me for the most part, especially compared to Justice.

There are some weird style changes on occasion, like when the whole thing suddenly shifted into manga style, which really didn’t work for me, but for the most part, I really enjoyed the first episode. Plus, I feel like a total moron for not realizing that the episodes were only 12 minutes long. “Wow, long eyecatch… oh… the show’s over.” Durrrrr.

My biggest complaint is the background music, which is something of a sin unto mankind. Somebody needs to be fired for it, preferably out of a canon. On the other hand, living to know that you produced such an atrocity is probably punishment enough.

Brief summary of the first episode is that Tsuyuri drags Osana to a comic faire to help sell her H-Manga. While there, Osana decides that doujins the profitable way for her future, stands up on the table and declares that she’s going to rule the doujin world or some such.

Very good chance I’ll keep covering this, especially given how short each episode is.

The bastards, this is the summer series I’m looking forward the most too after reading a bit of the manga, seems right up my alley. ;)
    But 12 minute episodes…that’s so last century…
Well, I guess it’s to be expected of a 4koma with pretty short chapters and only 3 volumes or so out. Will prolly only be 13 eps as well. :(
