History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi #36 – Miu vs Renka

June 24th, 2007

Nothing quite like a bevy of beauties at the bathing pool. Plus another episode with something that could almost be mistaken for an animation budget. Will wonders never cease?

Impressions:

I expected this to be mostly fanservice, and really, it mostly was, but we actually got a pretty decent fight scene out of it, especially for Kenichi. Therefore, I am rather pleased. Plus pigtail waving Renka brings back fond Mahoro and Tenma memories. And that goes triply for when Miu is petting her and calling her Nyanko-chan (Little Kitty).

Kenichi’s Poolside Fight

Summary:

The episode starts with Kenichi spazzing out to Miu’s grandfather that he wants to learn from him personally to pick up his insane fighting. The elder is more interested in his lollipop though and gives Ken some lame excuse, while outside, we see a mysterious voluptuous shadow lurking. Whoever could it be?

The woman calls out, and Kenichi trots out as she leaps over the wall and introduces herself to the elder. Renka with the flapping pigtails is absolutely adorable. The elder Ma is trying to sneak out, but Renka catches him and threatens to take him back to China once again.

Eventually, all the other masters convene on them and Renka introduces herself to the others. She grabs Kenichi’s arm and claims that she’ll convince him to go with her to make Ma go back to China, only to have Miu walk in and Kenichi freak out. Both Renka and Miu suddenly feel jealous at eachother as Kenichi beats a hasty retreat.

The next day, Kenichi is shadow boxing when Miu comes out to train with him, but Renka butts in and takes her place. Miu wanders off and kicks a training dummy out of anger. That night, Renka is still clinging to Kenichi, so Miu is showing her wrath by not giving him food while Renka feeds him her share and the masters giggle in the background.

That night, Kenichi turns to his trusty girl seducing book for advice, only to have Renka sneak up behind him and try to seize the book from him and the two end up wrasslin’ for it. Miu, feeling bad for being angry at Kenichi earlier is bringing him food, but hears the sexy wrasslin’ and gives it to Apachai instead.

She keeps lurking outside his door in time to hear Renka ask Kenichi about how he came to be here, and he tells her about when Miu saved him from some punks way back in episode 1 and how he wants to be someone who can protect others. Renka comes out of the room and the two face off as Renka’s pigtails continue to flap. Miu imagines her as a cat and begins petting her, only for it to end with Miu calling her a stray cat and both going off in a huff.

The next day, Kenichi is back to his training. Renka comes to him and asks him for a secret favor. She ends up dragging him to a water park… where they run into the other masters, including Honoka and Miu. Ma has some words for her about seeking happiness before Kisame tells Kenichi that it’s time for the training to start.

Shigure takes him and forces him to treat water while holding a weight above his head. Then Ma takes over and has him climb up a water slide, but not before Miu shows them how to do it and they both get an eyeful. Sakaki’s next as the two high kick through waist-high water. We also get an eyeful of Shigure swimming up a waterfall.

Kenichi eventually passes out and Miu and Renka start arguinging over him until a pair of yakuza walk in. Renka immediately recognizes them as decent fighters and hatches a plan. She drags Miu off to let themselves be ‘caught’ by the yakuza. Miu fights back as the yakuza attack while Renka runs away to hang with Kenichi. Miu’s string bikini isn’t made for fighting though, and it starts to fall off. She covers herself (boo!) instead of fighting and Kenichi runs to her defense while she reties and says that she’ll leave them to him.

Amazingly, we get a decent little fight scene out of Kenichi attacking the grunts, even if a lot of it is just Kenichi’s cheerleader squad looking on. Kenichi knocks one grunt down, and kicks the other into the pool, but gets pulled in too. Renka is impressed but Miu thinks Kenichi might be in trouble. Kenichi is fighting more evenly with grunt #2 under water, but because his opponent is holding him, he can’t get a breath and they both sink and drown, only for the elder to save them.

The next day, the two ‘yakuza’ are at the dojo and Kenichi/Miu are apologizing to them for attacking them. They were just trying to bring back the escaped Renka. She has some complimentary words for Kenichi on her way out, and even Miu gives her a good-bye cat rub. We can’t wait for you to come back, Nyanko-chan!

Why does Miu wear that stupid purple gymnastics outfit, like all the time?

  • raydan says:

when will episode 36 subbed go out?

  • lkaze says:

I don’t really mean anything bad but didn’t this show quality drop dramatically for episode 36, if compare to other(episode 35). What happen?

  • Anonymous says:

also the episode is kind of pointless. Kenichi already used his deathblow, the mubyoshi against Siegfried. Why is he trying to develop something he already knows?
