*whistles* Everybody loves somebody sometimes…
And although my dream was overdue,
Your love made it well worth waiting…
For someone like you.
Sinatra aside, buddy episode for Yoshimori and Gen who can now get to sleeping together comfortable. On the rooftop during school no less. I swear, the youth of today has no shame. The start of the OP also changed this episode. Instead of Yoshi and his barriers catching a ton of generic monsters, we see the new villains tranforming into generic last boss mode (is that you, Valvoga?) and Gen sparring with the family of other evil demons. This lasts all of about 5 seconds though and everything else is the same. Despite the monster being pretty ridiculous, this episode was about 90% action and so very little meaningless exposition about the attacks they’re using, which is why I’m really loving Kekkaishi lately.
The episode starts with Yoshi chasing a tiger demon only to have Gen horn in and kill it. He starts to chase after Gen, but Tokine clubs him with a barrier and then gets rid of the corpse. Yoshi’s feeling a bit emasculated by Gen being around and gets into a fight with his mutt over it. The next day, Yoshi and Gen are exchanging angry glances while the other students are getting the yaoi vibes from them.
That night, Gen is suiting up for battle when he hears a knock on the door. He leaps to attack, and stops when a blade is held at his throat. He recognizes the man as ‘Kiba-san’ (don’t quote me on that, he only sort of mumbles the name once) and Kiba tells him that he needs to be careful.
Over at Karasumori, Yoshi is still fighting with Madarao while Tokine tries to talk with Gen who just runs off. Yoshi and Madarao have sensed something in the school itself and are investigating. They’re suddenly attacked by a rolling creature who effortlessly slices through Yoshi’s barrier. The demon turns out to be a head attached to a wheel. They’re really stretching for monster designs here.
Gen leaps in to attack, but because of how it’s spinning, he can’t get a good hit in, and because he’s moving too quickly, Yoshi can’t attack it without possibly hitting him either. Gen kicks it out the window and then manages to stop it by grabbing on. It taunts Gen, and then stabs him with a dagger knocking him off.
Tokine catches him as he falls and Yoshi heads off to attack. Yoshi keeps trying to attack, but is being relatively ineffective. Gen moves to go back into the battle, and when he’s about to attack, Yoshi manages to get the timing right to put the corner between the spikes and stop its movement. He then clubs it around with barriers before enclosing it, but it manages to spin and break out before he can explode it.
Gen thinks about what Masamori told him about underestimating Yoshi and jumps up to Yoshi’s barrier. He then tells Yoshi to leave it to him and leaps to the wheel. He breaks off one of the spikes, but is thrown to the ground. Through all this, Hakubi is explaining Gen’s nature to Tokine. He has meanwhile turned both arms and his feet to the demon form while Hakubi continues his sob story about how tough life is for the hybrids.
Gen is tossed to the ground again and the wheel moves to attack Yoshi again. He tries to use his barriers to seal it, but keeps missing, then Gen jumps back into the fray using Yoshi’s barriers. Yoshi keeps making barriers to try to trap it while Gen keeps chasing and attacking it using Yoshi’s barriers. He manages a clean kick again, and Yoshi slams it with another barrier. He then follows it and seals only the head, preventing it from rotating the rest of the wheel and then executes it leaving Gen rather impressed with him.
In the aftermath, they’re discussing the various things that the wheel taunted them with and how they’re indicative of an ulterior plot going on. They ask Gen if he knows anything, but he’s not really telling them anything, and they begin yet another night of cleanup duty. Gen moves to leave and Tokine has some choice words for him showing that she cares that he was hurt while Yoshi offers to catch him and force him to help clean up.
The next day, Gen is napping on the rooftop and Yoshi yells at him for taking his spot. Gen attacks him for getting too close and marks his personal heterosexual buffer zone. They reach a sleeping agreement, but still engage in some pillow talk where Yoshi compliments Gen which violates the heterosexual buddy talk and Gen takes off.
