Revenge of the Voodoo Priestess Sisters.

This is a two parter, with the first half being pretty much all of the Machi introduction scenes (minus her bathtub adventure with Ikuto) on side A, and the ghost of Airantou on side B. I’m really not a fan of missing out on naked Machi tormenting Ikuto, but I’ll just hope that they’re saving that for later. Animation and art remain excellent to the point where I’m probably going to stop talking about it, and we see the first real push into the manga’s style of marshmallow people. Marshmallow Suzu especially busts the cute-o-meter, especially when she’s cowering from a ghost. It looks like it’s settling into its groove too. Somewhere between episode 2 and 3 for general humor levels.

At any rate, part A is about Ayane stealing Machi’s snacks, so Machi hires Suzu with her favorite food to go catch her and bring her back. In the manga, this was done by Ayane’s mother amid misunderstandings between Ikuto about the relationship between the sisters and how their mother is kind and gentle while Machi is a sadist. This time around, there are no illusions and their mother is totally absent. Through various misadventures, Ayane decides to bring the fight to Machi and starts trying to figure out Machi’s weakness. During this, Machi eventually tracks them down, only to overhear Ayane talking about Machi’s age, which is of course, Machi’s only weak spot. Recall that this is older customs, and Machi should have theoretically been married long ago. Don’t even start with me on the ages of the girls as they make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Ayane ends up on the receiving end of voodoo mojo… part A fin.

Part B starts out with the dynamic duo accidently breaking a statue that supposedly houses a vengeful spirit. Suzu, who is afraid of ghosts, spazzes out while the ever-skeptical Ikuto shrugs it off. Ayane plays off Suzu’s fears even more, until the ghost actually shows up and possesses Suzu, freaking both out. Ikuto, still not quite able to tell flora from fauna from spiritual entities ends up chasing it off to Suzu and Ayane’s relief.
