Overly Cautious Hero #02 — Dragonball

October 9th, 2019

Awesome. Power levels. Great. Wonderful.

If you're wondering about the Blade of the Immortal OVA on Amazon Prime, it's almost comically unanimated. When it tries to show action, it just starts strobing the screen as it blips between stills. It's almost worth looking at just to see how terrible production can get.

Impressions:

If you thought that there was just too much comedy last week, and not enough bad cliches, then good news, because most of this episode is just an episode of Dragonball Z. Not a parody of Dragonball Z, Dragonball Z. Complete with scouters, "this isn't even my final transformation" crap, and gasping/long discussion about how high the power levels are. It's almost even worse than Dragonball because Seiya is completely superfluous to the whole thing. He dodges like one attack, and then we get nigh on five minutes of the two females gibbering senselessly about power levels and transformations. The closest thing to a joke in that whole span is that her eyes bulge because her magic scouter is being blocked from seeing his true true power level.

I… already need a break before I throw myself into the maw of another one of Thursday's shows, and I don't even know which one(s) it'll be. This is going to be another very trying season, isn't it?

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

I watched this whole episode with a sense of disbelief, “the fuck is this?” I do not even think the creators think that this is funny, they are kinda stuck with it and are putting a minimal effort in everything.

As much as I enjoy K-On I just don’t know that “I need somebody to scream for 20 minutes straight, what’s the lady that voiced Yui up to?” would have been the decision I made.

That said I did laugh a few times. Might end up one of the more entertaining ones this time around.
