Street Corner Demon #01 — Horny and Confused

Dumb girls making stupid faces.

Impressions:

I feel like I should go a little easy on this since in the realm of "girls making stupid faces" shows, which are legion, this one feels like it's putting in a lot more effort than most at being energetic and snappy. I kind of feel like the humor, such as it is, works best when it's attempting to do multiple gags at the same time rather than sell everything on someone abruptly yelling a recap of the previous sentence. Typically involving the main character growling over herself explaining a gag. It certainly has much more of a budget than most of its ilk as well, and is always in some kind of motion, even if it's just the main character excitedly wagging her tail.

It definitely wants to be a kind of silly Potemayo-esque thing where a lot of the jokes are how everybody is taking the absurd stuff in stride. It's not as absurd as it considers its premise to be though, and still engages excessively in the cardinal Japanese humor sins of constantly shouting and overexplaining every other joke. At least it's only every other joke, rather than all of them, but there are so many that they may simply not have had time. Should it get credit for that? I'm not sure. There are times and places where the "throw the entire buffet table at the wall and see what sticks" works okayish, usually the more slapstick/abusive sight gags, but was it a comedy that made me chuckle at anything? To that, I can only give a noncommital meh.

Had a lot of fun with this one and dumbbells, I’m not going to pretend visual comedy is making any kind of comeback but you know, it’s a nice change.
