Stop This Sound! #01 — Harps? What Harps?

April 6th, 2019

And I am done with Saturday.

Impressions:

I wonder if they'll get to what's ostensibly the gimmick of the whole show next week, because this week was virtually a copy/paste of a sports club drama opener, most recently and directly, the sumo thing. It's all so ridiculous and impossible to swallow too. Here's this group of thugs openly and brazenly trashing everything and putting other students in the hospital… but this guy? He has a reputation. And this is a zero tolerance school! So we're gonna come down on him like a ton of bricks! But here's our crybaby, who has summoned up the courage to… say that the guy with a reputation isn't the one who beat him to a bloody pulp and has been trashing parts of the school for the last however many months. What emotional friendship and such a tale of triumph. Also, the three culprits confessed off screen after being presumably also being beaten up, but hey, no harm no foul. Aside from, you know, the concussions.

You'll be forgiven if you don't see where it being a harp club (okay, koto club, but whatever) comes into it. That's because it doesn't. So all we've got is Doormat Guy who's trying his best (not actually trying at all) and Misunderstood Bad Boy (who is not actually misunderstood or bad), wallowing their way through a very very tired and unbelievable cliche. One of the cries all the time, the other can only stare in shock as society/adults constantly villify him, frequently also crying. But look at all this glare. See how high we've cranked up the saturation? Draaaammmaaaaaa!

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • J.Paul says:

Oh, thank Haruhi. I don’t know what all the other reviewers watched, but you definitely saw the same show I did (and had about the same reaction). What a big steaming pile of anime that was.

  • Yume says:

Anime version is a bit too colorfull to be taken more seriously or feel the writing. I advice you if you can to read the manga version, it’s the reason why lot of people are happy about this anime.

Myself only watch the anime to hear the music but will stay with the manga version for more mature atmosphere ;)
