Spec-Ops Asuka #08 — Suffering in Tedium

March 1st, 2019

I'm just plain bored to tears.

Quasi-Impressions:

This series continues to be just meandering tedium. Half of this episode was dedicated to the new antagonist(ish) characters who exist solely to suffer. Interspersed were bits of the main characters skipping around in swimsuits on the beach, except when they were having flashbacks to random times they suffered. Nursey is probably the worst because they keep flip flopping between her being profoundly broken and a complete gag character. Nothing is connected to goddamned anything though, let alone the completely abandoned plot thread from the first month of episodes. It's just completely random angst-faces tossed in there in between spankings and cheesecake shots. I assume eventually all these characters will somehow end up at the same place at the same time, whereupon they'll have about three minutes of fighting with five seconds of animation and two minutes of barrier talk, but when will that be? God only knows. What will the stakes be? At this point, it'd just be a pissing contest. The hell does this show even think it's doing?

I'm pretty sure at this point I'm throwing in the towel. I just don't see any way it can salvage virtually any part of it. Maybe next week I'll post some random fanservice, or fast track more of those project code dump posts or a long overdue comprehensive review of Baldr Sky to keep the martyrdom and terrible nonsense writing theme going.
