Zombieland Saga #12 — Dropped Frames

December 20th, 2018

CGI has never looked worse.

Impressions:

It's absolutely fitting that this ends by going "Hey, remember how we introduced those guys investigating their pasts and then completely dropped that angle?" Maybe that's supposed to be an eleventh hour plea for a second season. Anyway, Sakura mopes. Everyone friendships at her. Then they go on with the concert anyway. The stage falls apart… for, what, the third time? But they friendship/idol through it anyway, and finish the concert… yet again. The end. Which isn't really an end to a single thing. They're just going to (hopefully) stop making episodes. I'm done with it at any rate, so for all intents and purposes, it's staked.

Final Thoughts:

The first two episodes showed some promise. They seemed to be at least taking an approach that was more mocking and less "slobbery blowjob" approach to the idol industry and the fans of it by having the idols be literally braindead zombies shambling around awkwardly on stage, dolled up and pimped out by an uncaring psychopath. It's almost too on the nose. Then they unfortunately ditched that and instead seemed to be dipping their toes into style parodies for different things in the second episode with a rap off. Not the direction I would have chosen, but still an interesting one. That was the last creative thought the stupid show had in its body.

The remaining nine episodes dove headfirst into the traditional slobbery blowjob to the idol industry. The zombie thing was all but dropped except for a slapstick gag here and there. Idols are great. Being an idol is the greatest. Also, friendship, yay. Every single episode. Every single character arc, if you can even call any of them that. It was nothing but that, over and over and over again. Someone would get sad for a moment, or reveal that they had a tragic past, half the time played off for giggles despite the moping, but then they'd remember that they're idols and could do their bestest again. And the CGI. God. The CGI.

This ended up being just another trashy, garbage idol show, in spite of its claims to be anything otherwise. Its nonexistence will be celebrated.

I enjoyed it on the whole despite the pretty meh final quarter, probably more than pretty much any other idol show that’s ever existed. I’d watch more with less srs business and more cute girls getting hit by cars definitely.

  • Opulent Rag says:

It turned out about as much as I expected, just another supposedly unique, Avant-garde anime utterly curb stomping it’s sole interesting idea to be just another boring moeblob idol show and the wheels keep turning

  • LUNI_TUNZ says:

This turned out so bad, I dropped it the second they shilled that drive-in chicken place by inviting that guy who must have been the owner to talk about how great the food is with mo sense of comedy or irony.

Apparently a bunch of people have been visiting Saga though, so it’s main goal of shilling has been accomplished, with being entertaining being a far far second.
