Dropkick On My Devil #02 — Backstory Dump

July 16th, 2018

Boy, was this tiresome.

Impressions:

The first segment was probably the strongest, and even that relies on a joke at the caliber of "don't eat the yellow snow," which was perhaps the only real joke not repeated from last week. There were some references that didn't pop up from last week, but those aren't jokes. That also means that after about eight minutes, it ran out of 'new' ideas and settled in to do nothing but rehash. On the second damn episode.

Meanwhile, the already fairly sparse hyperviolence got both less violent and less present, and both the Medusa and angel segments where they narrated out their entire deals were tedious to the maximum. And then there's the third segment, which took "I'm going to hide in the floor" and tried to stretch just that out into about two straight minutes of dialogue. It's like the thing missing from Wile E Coyote's hijinks was each one stretched out ten times longer with multiple explanations along the way. At the very least, pick up the damned pace.

The one thing I want to know is – why Eye patch girl, who I assume to be human, even wants to bother with the devil girl anyway. Like, she seemingly has no use for her, and she’s just a pain to be around. How does this relationship benefit her in any way?

I laugh at parts of this but it isn’t as funny as asobi asobase.

  • The Phantom says:

This was one hell of a downgrade from the violence in the first episode. Not happy. Probably watching third episode in FF mode, no violence and dropped.
