Darling Still Away From the Franxx #18 — Reset

May 19th, 2018

Boy, this show sure loves to reboot.

Impressions:

I don't even care a whit about those two or their non-relationship. Taking it away through the wonderful power of induced amnesia, no doubt so they can tearfully remember it later, isn't making me clutch at my pearls for the continued suffering that the adults are putting the teenagers through. And after they spent an entire episode celebrating how wonderful and happy and perfect and yada yada yada. I've had longer and deeper relationships with some sandwiches I've made than these two have had. And that other little love confession scene out of absolutely nowhere tugs on the angst strings incalculably less. And that's the entire episode. Happy, happy, bliss, happy, happy, STRIPPED AWAY BY HEARTLESS ADULTS.

Not to mention that it's the whole problem with everything the show does. Something 'shocking' happens, (not really shocking) and then instead of dealing with it or growing from there, it immediately slams the reset button. And it takes months at a time to get to each one, they attempt to play up its importance, or the price to be paid, instead of developing the characters behind it. What did our tragic two characters do this week? They were set dressing. Same as the principals. Oh wait, no. 02 had a nightmare reminding us that the giant evil hand they teased a goddamned month ago still exists. Lovely. Maybe now that we've finished resetting the last month of the show… again… we'll get back to that at some point.

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Something says:

I haven’t seen a mecha in the screenshots for this show in ages. They really sent military out to stop some dopey kids from having a wedding? I guess even the writers understand how boring everything looks.

    • Aroduc says:

There hasn’t been a mech in the show for nearly a month!

The first thing it did after introducing the biggest, murderest monster yet was to simply write out the monsters and mechs entirely.
