The Piano Forest #01 — Rubber Fingered CGI Monsters

April 8th, 2018

*shudder*.

Impressions:

Okay, first, an immaculate piano sitting in the middle of a forest that only allows itself to be played by one person? One person who turns into a CGI rubber monster when he plays? That thing is cursed. Both the kid and the piano. And who would expect such amazing acoustics from the middle of a forest! This is some Stephen King crap right here. This show could've gone a way better direction had the final scene of it being the boy turning his head a full 180 degrees, unhinging his jaw, and swallowing the guy whole. Or the piano doing it. Let's rewrite this story as Little Shop of Horrors.

It's a drama about boyhood friendship and music, so it's literally as melodrama as the very definition of the word gets. Boy meets boy. Boy has magic forest piano. Friendship ensues. Nobody was particularly yelly, but nobody was all that interesting either, and large segments of the show were eaten up by just sitting around listening to the piano. What's there to say about that? It sure was piano-y? It's not making an efforts to be particularly story driven, or add in flavor things like humor to fill in the gaps. There's just friendship and an almost certainly haunted piano. Go nuts.

You should check the SAO spinoff, it improves a lot without the obnoxious original MC. Its still dumb, but at least is cool tacticool stuff.
