Kino’s Journey 2017 #03 — Might Makes Right

Impressions:

Did the original series just whittle it down to the stories that weren't godawful? Or am I in my remembered generalized apathy to the original series merely thinking it was a crapload better than it actually was? This was another completely oblivious episode like the first one with only a half hearted conceit that maybe leaving a wake of destruction everywhere you go is kind of obnoxious. But they're okay with it, so whatever. Mostly though, it continues to be about nothing and padding. Needless dialogue that conveys jack squat, shots of scenery, rambling nonsense, tours of inconsequential minutia, etc. This could've been 10 minutes without any loss of theme or information, just a few shots of the motorcycle's ass.

Anyway, this time, it's about a giant salt shaker that runs over everything in its path simply because it can, but deserves special We're Awesome points because it could take a dump on their victims' chests, but doesn't. Do you even try to go around? You were surprised that another country was in your way, and didn't know what was past the wall. But somehow, knew it'd be too much trouble just to turn right, despite not actually having any kind of destination or schedule. Or you know what else you could've done? A 180, and just gone back the way you came. But no. Its victims deserve it because they charge too much for entry. Seriously. That's how they rationalize it. Oh sure, the unstoppable behemoth that destroys everything without regard for the lives or lands it's ruining is a little annoying, but have you seen what the tolls are these days? And of course, the rich, powerful, and unstoppable are just plain better, and we can't have their kids be sad about anything, so it's up to Kino to jump in and snipe a half dozen million dollar pieces of equipment nestled against soldiers faces. Better that than ruining a school's art project. I wanted the whole thing to fall into an ocean. Really make those kids depressed for not being able to scribble on a wall.
