They have very long necks.

Surprise! Amazon is apparently 'airing' this on Fridays internationally, while the terrestrial broadcasts don't begin until tomorrow. No idea what the plan is going forward, whether Amazon jumped the gun, or this is planned. Don't care. It slots into my schedule in place of Hell Girl, which had a 50% recap/50% cast special thing instead of the first episode.

Impressions:

Yep. The art remains as horrifying as it was in the promos. And this has episode has about as much to do with dancing as Rock Lobster has to do with crustaceans. I'll concede that maybe it skimmed a Wikipedia article on it, traced some photos, and then found some CGI people to awkwardly move in something approaching a waltz, but that's as far as I'll go. Insecure, directionless boy gets roped into sports not-club, where it turns out to be a super genius from working super extra double hard. Because why not do a 180 swing on 1/2 his salient character traits right off the bat? Yes, I know it's to show his newfound love of dancing/baseball/swimming/biking/ping-pong/whatever. It's no less stupid for it. There's not even any reason or connection for him. It's just straight from "I am completely apathetic about literally everything in my life," to "OH MY GOD! DANCING IS SO AWESOME!" upon watching a damn DVD.

If the above didn't make it clear, I have no idea what might distinguish this from any of a million other sports shows except the horrifying necks and expressions that look like he constantly has 66% of a pinecone jammed in his ass. Its connection to dance is largely superficial, and the characters are as tired as they come. The protagonist is especially painful on all levels; internal narration, freak-outs from being within the same timezone as a girl, and excessively malleable personality. I don't want to watch him, and it gives not even the slightest hint of any other reason to get involved, humor, drama, plot, or otherwise. So I won't. Everybody wins.
