Lovely Tyrant #04 — Unsubtle Handjobs

April 27th, 2017

I'm sure what everyone hoped for was cloying sentimentality and drama.

Clockwork Planet had another simply miserable episode where the only thing even approaching action was some guy throwing a few syringes at giant CGI gears, which somehow caused about 4 tons of metal to fall onto some robots. God help them if a pigeon ever got into the building. It'd destroy the entire place. The rest of the time was spent staring at CGI gears and talking about… CGI gears. So it loses the Thursday Craplympics on virtue of going first, if nothing else.

Impressions:

At least it's sort of a step up from the haphazard structure of the last couple episodes. I'm not sure that's on purpose though or if they just traded the particularly chaotic kind of mess for a more spread-out one by introducing a character in the first few minutes, dropping her entirely for something else, before returning to that but not actually finishing it until next week. Nor do I understand why they're continuing to hammer the stupid blonde girl thing over and over and trying to make it serious. Her one-note joke is already played out, so I guess it's at least sort of different, but we're not trading up here, and all signs seem to be that they're going to keep banging on this drum forever.

And then we get to the second half. The exceedingly drawn out second half, especially the end that traded all pretense of comedy for softcore S&M porn. And yet, still took about seven filler minutes to get there. But I guess they thought that the existing sadist wasn't fanservicey enough, so instead of simply adding that 'gag' to her already thing repertoire, they might as well add a new character. Probably to fill in a hair style/color quota.

definitely would have stuck with the armed girls thing from yesterday over this, not that it was good, but it was more entertaining, my kind of stupid trash

and it had the most inappropriate crucifixion since chuchu

The middle of the week is a wasteland.

…As is the rest of the week.

      And the weekend.

      Eat at Arby’s.

Clockwork Planet would be so much better if it just starred Marie, they had to give Naoto some shitty ability and have everyone stand around him heaping completely unearned praise unto him, while he actively worked against the main goal just to make him seem useful, and next week seems like the beach episode so, good lord.

As far as this show, I guess the idea is to give Akame someone who can actually stand up to her, because she’s a little too OP for the nothing they have her do.
