Taboo Tattoo #05 — And Now, Tits

August 1st, 2016

Well, at least it didn't turn into a beach episode.

If you missed it, Regalia's broadcast for the reason of the season has been canceled due to… god only knows what. Quality issues supposedly, which I believe considering 75% of every episode was talking heads, but that hasn't stopped any other show. It'll start back up from episode 1 in the fall. So now I get to figure out something to post sometime in the Tuesday through Friday period. Fun.

Impressions:

So much for the wonky tone settling done at all. It was probably the absolute worst that it's been in any episode yet, and especially frustrating because up until the princess antagonist got involved, it was doing really well. Very well-animated fights, well-choreographed fights, nicely visceral, even some (weak) quips here and there, particularly the very brief one explaining why the plan of "close your eyes" didn't work without fully explaining the whole damn thing. Well, there was also some idiocy too. "I'm about to tell you how to win! Are you ready to hear about how to win! Now, pass the radio so I can tell someone else how to win!" We could've skipped a few steps there, guys. And despite being the reason Seigi got slashed, Touko continued to do decently for herself by jumping into the fight.

Buuuuuuut, and this is a massive one, right about the time the cat jumped in, the antago-princess also showed up and everything turned into a huge mess of slapstick, breast jokes, tit bounces and fondling, and non-foreshadowing foreshadowing. It flirted for a few moments with continuing to be serious, particularly in jumping back to Izzy's side of the battle, but then the animation budget was running low resulting in some really ugly looking loops and a corny finishing blow. And then a random few minutes of doing its damnedest to turn the antagonists into jokes. I really can't get into whatever headspace this is going for with its humor, and I'm not sure one even exists. There's just such a divide between serious time and 'joke' time and never the twain shall they meet.

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

This show’s comedy is super weak, the second half didn’t even feel like the same show, and way to cut Il’s legs from under her with that dumbass “LOL SHE TOTALLY WANTS TO FUCK THE PRINCESS” joke.

  • sonicsenryaku says:

nicely animated fights?..after the first half of ep 1 the production values dipped considerably. Even the direction and choreography couldnt be saved considering all the choppy editing and camera work. It’s very clear jc staff blew all their production efforts on the fight between izzy and seigi. Background detail and character animations are half assed

  • The Phantom says:

Everything after the princess appeared was a disaster, it was like watching a completely different show, and yea it was doing amazing until that point, then went downhill, nothing made sense, felt rushed, and the comedy was just horrible, if this is what this show really is about then I am done with this.

I feel the same too, in the first episode i really
Like how detailed and unique the fight is. But on
The next episodes Im lossing interest and excitement.
Hopefully after watching this episode tonight.
, as what i’ve read in the opinions here i will be
Excited and enjoy watching it again.

It feels like the comedy of Heavy Object. Where the characters are supposed to say funny and cool one-liners and do some adult humour but it comes across like a 12 year old writing a Die Hard script. At least the quippy stuff.
