Love Live! Sunshine!! #01 — Refrain

July 2nd, 2016

Because it's a musical term, this is just repetition, and it should be avoided!

The Outcast was supposed to have an episode 0 today. I don't know if it was to have actual content or just be some wanky staff thing, but it aired hours ago and still hasn't popped up, so… not sure what's up. I also apparently missed (or it wasn't announced when I was writing the preview) that Rewrite's first episode will be an hour long. What 'fun.' Also, the last show today, airing at holy crap why's it so late o'clock got further delayed an hour. Fun morning ahead.

Impressions:

I barely survived suffering through the first season, so even though this is sort of a sequel, I figured I'd give it a chance. That was a goddamned mistake. It began with the protagonist whinging to herself about how she was normal and this was a normal day, and then she stumbled upon the miracle of greatness that is Love Live. A bit on the nose, don't you think, Sunrise? All this did was shuffle around the personalities and physical appearances from the first series. Hell, it even ended with basically the exact same "leaving school" song and dance number performed by the zombie spectres of CGI. Maybe you could spend a little less of your obviously significant budget on girls being excited and gasping in awe of idols and a little more on girls being idols, eh, Sunrise?

Girls doing their best. Pop starlets are the greatest goddamned thing ever. They're in a club where they do their best and can't stop gushing about being pop starlets. Buy our CDs. Aroduc out and moving on to… some girly romance bit. Ugh.

I assume they use these idol animes as recruitment tools for impressionable naive girls rather than just more moe garbage to throw on the otaku pyre. Kind of insidious as fuck!
