Dimension W #05 — Fever Dream

February 7th, 2016

Also, some attempted rape, apropos of nothing.

Impressions:

Well, I guess it was a fitting followup to last week's twenty minutes of absolutely completely nonsensical setup. Juuuust enough action in the first bit to make me think that maybe, just maybe, it might have be spending the time and budget it squandered last week on something at least a little more visually interesting this week. Then the torture porn started and the story quickly collapsed under the weight of the lead paint that they were serving as soup in the writer's room once more. The weirdest part was how after spending an entire episode and torture sequence on the world's towliest towel sticking to the robot, it just fell off and they didn't even try to hide it. And if you're wondering what the goth girl's role in the story was, so am I. She simply dicked off at the halfway point

The second half went straight into some kind of inane ghost quasi-flashback explaining what really happened, as the fever dream of a cryogenically frozen girl, who was almost raped, but that actually has nothing to do with anything because it was her drowning that was the tragedy, either yanked out of the robot's ass, or simply daydreamed about by a ghost. Except it was never her in the ice chunk. It was actually that other girl, who had super amnesia, and needed another extended flashback to explain it. Except that her soul, that's her non-amnesia soul, lives on, and all the other murderous ghosts have been cheering them on, and the whole thing was because parallel realities were leaking in. Christ. Am I on drugs right now? I feel like I might be, trying to summarize this. But at least there's something to summarize, I guess. And the day is saved thanks to the power of twelve goddamned minutes of exposition. Hooray.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • XK says:

Yeah, that was just a total mess up that would even make something like Rokka: Brave of the Six Flowers storytelling look concise and coherent by comparison. It kind of looked like they had no idea how to finish it so the writers just kept throwing things into the pot to complicate it.

Yet this was based on a manga, right? It’s amazing someone could screw up a story line that badly when they had an existing plot as an outline. Probably tried to compress an existing multi-chapter story that made no sense anyway.

  • The Phantom says:

So her towel was not magical, she never had one to begin with!. This was extremely over simplified, I read the source a bit and god that was a mess.

  • Anonymous says:

Kind of irrelevant but was there attempted rape?he was choking her with 1 hand and filming with another so maybe it was attempted murder
