Luck and Logic #03 — Hypocritic Oath

January 23rd, 2016

First, do no harm, but helping others do harm is fine.

Impressions:

I'm sorry, but did they bake a gigantic cake and then put an entire turkey on top of it? And then serve it with dumplings? For breakfast? Anyway, the episode was about angsty girl who was ousted from her position as ineffective non-leader, except not really. I think the more interesting thing is that the monsters of the week were actual thinking, sentient beasties instead of random flame pigs. Thankfully, this episode was much more focused on fighting the succubus thingy instead of spending the entire time faffing around. It'd still be nice if the action wasn't so… CGI and bad, but that ship has long since sailed, I fear.

I think that the central conceit of this episode, that Yurine doesn't like killing, was a particularly intelligent one to base an episode on though, and they made a complete hash of it anyway. Maybe if she had trouble controlling her power offensively, or the enemy was at her mercy, or if it was particlarly brutal or something, but I doubt the show has the teeth for something like that. She was against even attacking, period. Her being fine with everyone else doing it, and helping them kill, and cheering them on as they do, came off as insincere at best, but they didn't really present any decent case for not killing the soul sucking thingy either. Just… she doesn't like hurting people because she's so nice, so don't kill, but she killed it anywa because that was her job, which pussed off Satan himself… but she's going to listen to the guy telling her not to kill it from now on. It was a mess, but at least still not pure tedium like episode 2 was.

You are been insensible as usual
Police cup also don’t want to Kill but they need because they job urge this
but simple comparision like this you don’t think

  • Opulent Rag says:

    Actual demonic Succubus monster…

    Episode 10/10

  • anise_punter says:

“Yurine” is just a hugely unfortunate name.

  • FlameStrike says:

Argh I wish they just made a LITTLE more sense. Like if they explained why they were able to capture instead of kill the Pig monster for ep1, as opposed to needing to kill the Sucubus monster etc. If they gave an actual compelling reason to either kill or not kill this would have been so much more watchable.

  • arknoir says:

Girl was sulking not because of her stance on killing, it was because main character didn’t let her introduce herself in ep 1, took her captaincy and didn’t accidentally fall over and fell her up, harem style.

  • Longing says:

I actually agree that the healer girl not wanting to kill anything is not a bad basis for an episode.

I would, however, say that it could have been handled better and further down the road so that it would have some actual impact. You know, after having established her character a bit better. Having a weapon that can murder the enemy instantly also took any kind of flare from the scene.

this felt idiotic since they are remorseless monsters from another world.I think it would have been more compelling if taking out the monster required killing the possessed host and it was more of a choice between 1 life vs many than many lives vs demon life. I also get that her partner is venus but not everything has to be love based, her killing dialogue would better fit a romance,I find such choices puzzling(like the little sisters “you are villager A” and “this is what mom would have wanted” it cute first 1-2 times but soon gets annoying.at least she is out of the story but they still have missteps like that from time to time).
