Mikagura School Suite #10 — Snipe Hunt

June 8th, 2015

I’m tempted to just drop this and watch random GA episodes for the rest of this season’s Mondays.

Impressions:

Now that Eruna has a club room, she can finally… I have no idea what. Eventually, it leads to Pink menstruating all over the place for not appreciating Eruna’s feelings and how hard she’s working yada yada so forth and don’t care. You give people impossible super powers and all you can manage with them is unbudgeted crap fights over teenage insecurities over not caring enough about each other. It’s almost repugnant in the way that it puts Eruna on a pedestal and literally attacks anybody who refuses to worship her for the goddess of light that she is. Even moreso because we all know that this is going to end with her being affirmed to be the goddess of all that is good and the only sin she or anybody else in her little cult has is caring too much about her or each other. Learn how to write goddamned characters, Japan. And stop with that ridiculous coloring to try to show contrast. It looked like the border between two Metroid areas.

But anyway, the other 18 minutes of the episode was pretty much “Let’s go on a snipe hunt!” with no sense of irony. More faffing. Nothing to do with the fight at the end. May as well have taken place a month ago during the tournament for all anything with it mattered. The stale humor and repeated one-off jokes haven’t suddenly gotten any better, so it’s just more blatantly padding out the time until this reaches its foregone conclusion. Hip hip hooray.

12 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Dave Baranyi says:

Have you started to look into the new Summer 2015 series yet? Things don’t look like they will get any better, and maybe even worse…

    • Aroduc says:

Only vaguely. It’s on my plate for the weekend. I can’t imagine it’d be worse than this one though. I’m putting slight hope on the two Satelight action franchises to at least start strong again before their inevitable descent into nonsense at the end. Symphogear appears to be going all in on the goth designs and evil scowling, which is probably an improvement after its disaster of an antagonist situation last time around. At least assuming they are simplifying.

      • Dave Baranyi says:

I’ve done some digging around already, and all I can say is, “The horror… the horror…”

My prediction is that you will be crying tears of blood by mid-August, but my hope (dream?) is that I will be wrong and there will be something, anything, to enjoy in the upcoming season…

Good luck getting through the rest of this season. I’m down to only one of the new Spring 2015 series now – Dungeon Boobs – and only out of masochism…

  • Sanjuro says:

What happened to all the old series on the side bar? What’ll I do if I’m in a situation where I need to find out what you thought of Total Eclipse?

    • Aroduc says:

      Eaten by gnomes.

After not putting up anything under the “Current Series” sidebar at halfway through the season, I checked some traffic stats and those links basically never get touched, even by the hundreds of Russian spambots. They’re way too big to put in a dropdown, so they can just go live in purgatory in the Schedule area from the main tab unless you have a convincing argument to restore them. You’re the first to notice/comment on it since I removed it on… the 29th. I’ve been pondering something else to put in the sidebar, but was busy last week. I should be very not busy next week (and much of July), so I’m sure I’ll come up with something. Maybe bring back the Onion-copied faux current events thing from the blog’s nascent days.

      • Dave Baranyi says:

Ha! Thanks to your comment on it I just looked at your Schedule tab for the first time…I like it a lot better than your old side-bar list.

        • Dave Baranyi says:

BTW – while randomly clicking on a few of the older links in the Schedule tab, “Kanokon” came up when I clicked on “Vampire Knights”…

I suspect that there may be some Deeper Significance to that, but I’m a bit afraid to go there… LOL

        • Aroduc says:

…But why would anybody click on Vampire Knights?

And as more proof of how useless that page (and the sidebar) is, that’s been wrong apparently since 2008 and has gone unnoticed.

        • Chipp says:

Speaking of your Schedule list you still didn’t add the Spring shows in there.

        • Aroduc says:

Nah, they are (were) there, just mislabled as Winter 2015.

  • The Phantom says:

I kinda liked that sidebar… anyway why dont you review UBW on monday instead of this, I believe a 2 days delayed show is still better than this, even if you like to review shows the same day they air, you can just distribute the shows around the week regardless of when they air.

    • Aroduc says:

Because it wasn’t lack of time on Saturdays that I’m not covering UBW, but lack of interest.
