Seraph of the End #01 — Guys, The Vampires are Evil, Guys

They kill families, guys. Guys.
Impressions:
This episode could have been 18 minutes shorter and still covered the same ground. How clueless do they think the audience is that they needed to set up that a dystopian society of vampires enslaving human children needs 15 minutes to be established as cruel and evil? Bitch, that’s the kind of thing to do in an opening montage, if even done at all. The matching jumpsuits, grubby children running through sewers, and wanton mass child murder all got that message across in about a tenth the time. Has Twilight gotten its hooks into Japan that badly? Oh, but they we’d have missed the flashback about faaaaaaaaaaaamily and wouldn’t fully understand why having his best friend murdered in front of him is traumatic.
You may as well skip the first 16 minutes, but the escape and confrontation isn’t any less full of rambling about how much darkness and despair there is while the main character stares in helpless constipation, nor any major animation or action for this supposed action series. Well, I guess there’s an effeminate spinning vampire who hugs himself in sexual delight before penetrating a little boy. That counts as a kind of action, I guess. At least among a certain crowd.
This episode was ponderous, padded, heavy handed as hell, and uninteresting. These are not difficult traits to find in a Japanese show. Moving right along.
Next Episode:
Yay! Bullying!
