Elvis? Is that you?

Impressions:

When this opened up in a hot spring, my first thought was “Oh god no.” My second was “Maybe it’s not too late to hop over to Dog Days after all and say the same things about it but get to look at some ass-ugly art and boobs.” ‘Luckily’ that ended up being just some random 4 minutes of nonsense jammed in to the start of the episode to pad out the run time. Even more luckily, the new performance area didn’t involve any idol crap. At least not yet. In fact, after how lifeless the last four episodes have been, it was almost shocking to see some actual effort put into the animation and humor for once. You can actually see some traces of the first couple episodes in here.

Unfortunately, it still has many of the same problems above and beyond the four introductory minutes of pure padding. Primarily, the main characters continuing to be so many sacks of useless flour hauled around. They tried to make a joke out of it, but it cuts a little too close to the truth. Any thought of organic storytelling was also pitched out the door with a handful of grenades in the second half and all that remained was a gigantic pile of exposition that gleefully murdered what the first half had done right. It’s like they thought things were getting too exciting and we needed ten minutes to cool down from their brief flings with visual humor and action. Or more likely, the budget ran out.
