Yona of the Dawn #01 — The One Without the Rape

But a lot of stupid polka dots.
Impressions:
Our second “princess is betrayed by a family member, has parent killed in front of them, and sent into exile where she grows up and learns to be tough-except-for-men-cause-penises-are-just-that-great” shows. While Ange went for over the top in just about every way, this instead goes for… the same goddamned polka dot/pastel background reaction shots as every goddamned girly show out there. Japan needs to declare a moratorium on that brand of nonsense. If it looks like a bad powerpoint background, you’re not allowed to use it.
It also lacks Sunrise’s production strength… severely… and their flair for having anything happen ever. Christ. There have been similar shows and movies with more or less the exact same premise that started at where this took 19 minutes to get. And no, it did not fill that time with ass-shots while singing at dragons, going over deep seated racism against muggles, or barely restrained lesbian lacrosse orgies. Just the titular character blushing at all the boys, scampering around the castle like a hamster, and having flashbacks to other times she blushed at boys and scampered around the castle.
Dull characters who spent the entire episode pissing about, feh production, no lacrosse. Next.
Next Episode:
We still haven’t left the castle?

And next episode… More flashbacks!
Personally, I think the princess is actually cute and it’s a good sign that she can talk back, but… the pace… the flashbacks… and all the characters from the opening will have flashbacks, too?!
