Unlimited Blade Works #00a — Hello, People Who Don’t Matter

October 4th, 2014

Isn’t this a fantastic day of not mattering?

I guess I’ll split this hour priemere up into two halves like I did for Gundam. Or at least, that’s the plan. We’ll see how that works out.

Impressions:

This was about as interesting as I expected from taking the short prologue and stretching it out to a goddamned hour. And this was only the first half! Hell, the first ten minutes were just Rin getting dressed and Rin wandering around the school saying hello to characters that unless they’re doing some major rewriting, have already stopped existing in the story as far as the narrative is concerned. Even if you came into it knowing nothing at all about the series, it’d be hard to discern any purpose for it. It was like the standard visual/light novel meet and greet, except that only about two characters carried on a conversation for more than 5 seconds or had any discernable personality traits. It was boring. It was pointless. Why are we doing this?

Which isn’t to say that the second half with Archer was much better, especially with the certainty that we’ll be going through most of this again in even more infodump form once Captain Dense-o gets involved with things. Talking heads in long distance shots. Another exciting entry in the UFOTable Fate saga. Oh, but wait, the conversation was probably mostly verbatim from the VN which therefore makes it good for some reason. Let’s see if the second half improves on this. I’m betting no.
