Parasyte #02 — With Great Power Comes Great Insecurity

October 15th, 2014

One of Uncle Ben’s lesser known sayings.

Impressions:

Big step down from the first episode, thanks in large part from this bizarre belief they seem to have that the parasyte stuff is nowhere as interesting as Mr. Milquetoast bumming around and being an insecure little prat with friends and bullies, but also the animation taking a very significant hit. The superhero letting himself be made a fool of or picked on is nothing new. It’s practically the only thing that Peter Parker and Clark Kent are good for. They don’t react to it with constant horror and insecurity though. It’s not like this is too deadly serious for a little comic relief in those parts either, as it’s sandwiched between two joke bits, complete with obnoxious joke music. It’d also be nice if Japan figured out basketball one of these days. Throwing it overhand from… right outside the three point line is not the feat of strength and impressive accuracy you seem to think it is, guys. Kind of… uh, the opposite. Especially if it takes a running start to do so.

It also had the similar problem with the action this episode as it did the last. The ‘fight’ lasted about three seconds. The staring in terror as the two gabbed (or more like just one gabbed) lasted about three minutes. Hell, the severed deflated head continued talking for longer than they actually fought. It was also another incident of just stumbling across another infected thing, totally unconnected to any of the teenage melodrama crap either before or after, as were the intro/outtro sequences to the episode.

Ah sure, if you say so, Mr. NBA pro. You’re one cheeky Clark Kent I swear m8.

I knew there would be basketball somewhere. You can’t have obnoxious wubs without some homo-erotic basket-balling.
