Akame #09 — “I Hope The Younger Brother Because of Dominate”

August 31st, 2014

If you say so.

Impressions:

Another (now traditional) mess on an episode. The first half was mainly concerned with marshalling the antagonist forces for like… the fifth time in this show’s run so far, but having spent all that time getting them together and driving home over and over again about how wacky it was to have a guy in a gimp mask among other things, they proceeded to… do absolutely nothing with any of them. I think perhaps the most insultingly awful part was the shocking reveal that the woman behind the mask they sparred with was Esdeath. One would think that would be obvious from the hair, clothes, stature, etc, but no. Apparently she’s got Kent blood, but at least he bothers to change his clothes and put on a cape before everyone becomes completely unable to recognize him.

As for the rest… yawn. Some poorly animated action and flashbacks to the people who were killed off last week mostly. The whole minotaur thing with Tatsumi inflicting pink bubbles at the end seems like it should be the event that goes before the OP to set up what the plot of an episode is going to be, not a cliffhanger. They also didn’t get to things they showed last week in the preview for this episode until 20 minutes in, so part of last week’s preview was practically the cliffhanger for next week. Ye lords.

Next Episode:

More gimp.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Atmo says:

Too damn rushed, I almost passed out.

  • Osujin says:

I don’t think we, the viewers, were meant to question whether it was Esdeath in the mask. It was more that her new cronies were unfamiliar with what she looked like and taken off guard by an intruder suddenly attacking them. Besides, Akame’s sister didn’t seem confused by who it was and others might have known too. The episode definitely needed better pacing, but I’m glad we got to see some of the leader’s backstory.
