Persona 4 Golden #01 — New Game+

Wherein I rant about Spiderman.

Impressions:

Well, on one hand, there’s a lot more new here than I expected. I’m fairly sure that a lot of that comes just from this being the second or third round of touch-ups. Things don’t look as washed out, the colors are more vibrant, people’s heads aren’t as… blobby, and while I can’t say a whole lot about the rest of the episode without going back and actually looking, the actual persona summoning scene and fight against the legion of tongueballs was completely different this time around with Yuu nuking the entire area instead of just stabbing a few. They also formed up into a kind of horrifying CGI tongueball mass for reasons I couldn’t explain.

On the other hand, it’s nowhere near enough to make me want to watch the entire show again. That’s the problem when you do a copy paste adaptation and then decide to remake by copy and pasting again. There have been at least 4 different Spiderman things over the last decade, and the focuses, strengths, weakness, differences that make them not the bloody same thing, are easy to define because the premise is the broad canvas on which the story is told, not the single one plot which has no variation and only exists in a single form that nothing ever ever ever ever must be changed or it will no longer be Spiderman. And that doesn’t even count the version where they ‘killed’ him to replace him with Doctor Octopus.

It does also kind of feed into my “Good god, Japan, must you pad the hell out of everything?” agend when their remake’s first episode covers the same ground as the original season’s first episode but manages to cut out about six minutes… in order to make room for sitting on a bus with talking heads before standing in the wind, still talking talking heads. You’re cutting the fat to stuff in gristle, guys.

Next Episode:

Naked.

I guess I’ll deal with it for now. But only for 3 episodes. After that I may drop it

Oh come one Aroduc, there is not much to watch for Thursdays anyways, so why not blog this again. If it makes you feel better this show is only 12 episodes for this season and then you can be done with it once and for all.

This is Atlus’ street fighter. They will milk this til the nipples fall off. That’s why they have a 2 fighting games, an idol game, and a crossover etrian odyssey clone

I don’t understand why there is another adaptation like so close to the last one, but regardless I will watch it, pretty much anything that says persona 3 or 4 I am already a fan, so in my very biased opinion this was fucking awesome GO Yu go get them :D

This was… pretty god damn entertaining for a supposed “remake”. I don’t know if it’s because I played P4G recently, but seeing this episode completely shit all over the Persona canon in glorious hamfisted carnage puts a smile on my face. If the anime can continue with this unhinged high octane craziness, I might buy in.

Preview look like they’re doing “Babe Hunt 2.0”. So they skipped over a ton of plot to get to the more original parts. Not sure how much they’re remaking this “remake”, but I’d say it’d be for the best to skip through those cutscenes.

    Gary Sue protagonist.

    Must be A-1’s motto.

And, at the beginning, I felt it was really a New Game+ with Yu smiling misteriously all the time and doing straight forward things all around. But… things gonna to the wrong side and everything stoped working as a “Yu came back in time because reasons and now will do what he want”.
