Now the polka dots are just making me mad.

Impressions:

Welp, the magic’s gone. Perhaps like that Glasses Club show, I was just so shocked by a modicum of competence and a chuckle or two, or perhaps it’s because like them all, it ground to a half and went into full rehash mode while the budget was eaten by the anime grue who poops out godawful CGI scenes of feet walking down halls. This may not have the snappiness or pacing or screwing stuffed animals of the first episode, but it sure has goddamned CGI hallways!

So what did they spend the 15 minutes it took to get back to where it left off last week on? A boatload of exposition, flashbacks, and half-assed nonjokes like “He left… all the way to Tokyo!?!?” And then a gong blares, the death knell for yet another piece of my soul. Meanwhile, they’re trying to play coy with “This was only the start of my life being flipped, turned upside down,” as if the OP and ED simply do not exist. Did the Fresh Prince begin with two episodes of Will Smith bumming around West Philadelphia to only get to Bel Air and the actual premise an hour into the show? No. He teaches Ashley to rap and Carlton learns a valuable lesson about not hating black people. I think. It’s been a long time. 

The point is that this episode was boring, lame, and just continued the introductions which were entirely unnecessary while the humor and presentation pissed off to go be digested by a grue. It took a standard introduction episode, executed not bad at all, and then followed it up with yet more introduction, but now three times as unneeded and with half the effort. Good on you for making it an episode before switching to absolutely nothing and a bag of nothing, which is more than most shows of its kind manage, but this was not the way to follow it up.
