Hanayamata #02 — Naked Lobster Monster

July 14th, 2014

Something that would improve most shows, honestly.

Impressions:

I think this is where Megaforehead and I part ways. It leaned off the “I am soooo dull” pedal only to step on the “insecure and just gonna sit here feeling sorry for myself” pedal. Oh, I’m sure we’re supposed to feel emotions or something because she’s loooonely, but give me a break. My friend found a hobby, a new friend, and wants to do something, but screw her. Her place is in the shadows worshipping me. But friiiiiiiiiiiiends! And just in case you missed that she was jealous, she also went ahead and just announced it anyway.

There was also the entirely unintentional comedy, like when they were talking about how great and wonderful yosakoi is… Oh wait, that was 80% of the episode… When they were watching a video and talking about how elegant and beautiful the dance was over a bunch of stills, all I could think of was the Futurama mecha parody that did the exact same thing with a naked lobster monster. Congratulations, Hanayamata. Your obliviousness spans the decades and continents.

I’d still rather watch this than many of the other “cute girls do pseudo-idol things but really just blush and be frieeeeends” shows, but I’m still not laughing, nor am I buying the friendship drama crap. Even if I was, it’s still almost entirely “yosakoi is the most magiclest and wonderfulest and sparklingest and greatest and magiclest and sparklingest thing eveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!” A sentiment I was sick of well before the first episode had ended.

Next Episode:

If you’re reading this, then I’ve forgotten to change the template.
