How is “Samurai Jam” supposed to be an improvement?

Impressions:

I’m really not sure what this is trying to go for. I have the very heavy suspicion that they just took the script from something like Pretty Rhythm or Lemon Angel, replaced the females with males, and decided that the setting should be oscillating between 1870 and 1970 at complete random. Production is pretty poor all around, but at least you can play the game of “Which character has a vagina?” from the screenshots and then to almost certainly your horror, realize that it’s none of them.

It’s trying to win points by being extra cheesy so I guess that would classify it as a comedy, but the only time that went far enough was when he exploded in an orgasmic spray of light, materialized guitar and drums for his similarly orgasming backups, and then everyone turned into CGI. However, outside of that, there were only a few marginal overtures toward comedy at best, such as the giant afro’d wandering master. That was kind of all though unless you consider things like “I’ll show them my passion this time!” / “You suck!” / “Gah!” comedy. Sure, that one moment of orgasmic rock was silly, but that was also almost nearly twenty minutes in. If that’s what you want to say that your show is going to be like, lead off with it like the naked magical transforming god-thing from last season.

I guess no big surprises here is the takeaway point. It’s corny, but neither corny enough nor corny often enough to actually be a parody. From how devoid of any kind of content, attempted humor or otherwise, the rest of the episode was, I get more of the feeling that it’s just emulating schlock instead of either poking fun at or going full Adam West Batman on it anyway.
