Aldnoah.Zero #01 — Everyone Hates New Orleans

Yeah, screw those Cajuns for being all Cajuny!
Impressions:
What truly worries me is that they probably think that intro with the princess dancing about and Random Teen being awkward and nervously fumbling for words before panning out to reveal that they’re in a spaceship was a hook. Because after that, they switch gears to talking about how someone wants their eggs cooked and then straight from there into a history lesson. And then, excitement supposedly established, it gets boring. And it stays that way right up until the missiles and orbital bombardment starts. Most shows would begin with that. I couldn’t even tell you how most of the characters even tied into goddamned anything. The princess and her boy toy, maybe, but the rest are just, like… some random kids that the camera stopped on and then forgot about again once things started happening. Hell, what was presumably the main character was checking the price of eggs when things kicked off. That is how connected he was to anything going on.
It was not a strong beginning in the slightest. It took 16 minutes to get anywhere at all, and again, it only got as far as what many of these kinds of shows cover in their opening expository montages. It didn’t even do a convincing job that the princess was killed in that little farce. Characters are practically nonexistent too and I strongly suspect it’s going to be trying to juggle its far too large cast. Production is middling at best, although bloody nothing goes on for the vast majority of the episode anyway, not making it at all clear where it’s going to go from here. I suspect, as usual, that the answer is probably close to nowhere.

I saw the princess, I saw stupidhead with his sister, and was still wondering what stupid reason they will use to put magical girlfriend-princess into stupidhead house when she apparently died, hopefully SHE WILL NOT return next episode with amnesia inside stupidhead house, please Japan, PLEASE.
