Chaika #05 — Insufficient Dragon Murder

May 7th, 2014

Why do you tease me with slaughter?

Impressions:

This was an… odd episode. From the opening speech of Chaika being insecure and killer dragons stomping on people like a sugar-addled toddler, you’d think either of those things would figure into the rest of the episode when the only thing that did was an especially large amount of comic relief. Honestly, a little mass murdering and bloodlust would be welcome. Or even the threat of it. I’m still not sure what the cat-dragon is there for after making an immediate exit. Instead though, it hopped over to the boring antagonists wandering around after them so they could… continue wandering around? I have no idea what they were even doing in the episode at all because that was pretty much the end of them too. Didn’t even have enough of an impact to force the team up between the Chaika Rangers.

And speaking of that, the first half of the episode had practically nothing to do with the second anyway, as they then ran into another one of the Chaikas running around and her own identical gang of misanthropes, albeit far, far, far stupider. Apparently they come in all the colors of the rainbow and ranges of the emotional spectrum. Or maybe it’s the stages of grief. I’m sure some wanker out there has already written at least two to three paragraphs on the possible interpretations of color, or not since this doesn’t air on noitaminA. But at least they put some effort into the action again, raising this back to mostly passable. They really need to approximately double the pace here though, because they are just godawful at cliffhangers and the first 10 minutes of both these last two arcs have been just wasted space.

Next Episode:

BRIGHT LIGHTS.

  • Guy says:

I liked how the dragon was desperate for a fight vs some random thug with a tiny knife, but was nowhere to be found vs a trio of well armed fighters.

  • algorithm says:

Those Chaikas, gotta catch them all.

  • Flip Porter says:

Red Chaika is a lot better. Not a loli ftw.
