Wiz Bars #02 — Horrifying Things to Do To Food

January 19th, 2014

Japan, we need to have a talk about mayo.

I gave WCW a glance while I was waiting for this. The first thing that happened after the OP was the protagonist introducing himself via internal narration. And the female. And his situation. How bad is your memory, Japan? I’d still hesitate to call it the nadir of the series though because I suspect it has depths far yet to plumb. There was also an anthropomorphic crocodile and some broom antics later, but there were also about ten seconds of him screaming before he realized that he hadn’t actually been stabbed like he thought he was. The brief uptick in episode two appears to have been just that.

Impressions:

There’s something I think I can sympathize with when it opens up with Ceci being horrified by what Japan does to its food, especially when it comes to mayonnaise. Ye gods. There was a slice of pizza at the end with an entire whipped cream-like dollop. Maybe it was whipped cream. It was horrifying regardless.

Anyway, the episode was a bit better focused than the first and other than a black-hole crotch shot at the very start, steered clear of any groping frogs or the like. I guess there was a close-up of a butt, but at the same time, someone was waving a shoe-knife in the face, so unless you have some really weird fetishes, I don’t think that’s going to do it. Everyone still looks like they came straight from a rave though, or maybe a Yo Gabba Gabba concert, which still annoys me, especially when they go to meet well-dressed lawyer people for doing lawyer business.

I’m starting to worry about the CGI mecha though and suspect that it may be trying to be a giant robot show in disguise. They could have also stood to be a little better focused on the court stuff probably. As it stands, it’s a bit silly, and I’m well aware of what I’m saying here. I don’t mean some long, drawn out debate. Even Law and Order knows better than to pull that. As it stood, Ceci barged in late, yelled out a paragraph, then everyone gave her a thumbs up and went home. At least have some actual evidence thrown out instead of just going “Well, maybe, but if you had a guy in a mask testify…” I suspect there may just be a cultural gap here and this is at least how the regular Japanese see their courts functioning. It’s still difficult to take seriously when a teenager charges in fresh from Hot Topic and in a couple sentences overthrows the entire proceeding.

  • Sanjuro says:

Havn’t you played Ace Attorney. The courts are really like that over there, including the circus-like defendants, judges and attorneys.
Also I thought she said it WAS whipped cream.

  • The Phantom says:

I’m here for the visuals and they are still very good. I don’t like the attorney parts though, I was rolling my eyes when the gang leader just appeared on the trial saying that the guy was innocent, I mean how brain dead can you be…

    Cheesy plot is Cheesy.

  • Ronin8317 says:

The creator cannot decide between creating a magical girl show, or a giant robot show, so the giant robot is now piloted by a magical girl. INNOVATION!!

  • Fate says:

This show makes me cringe. I think that is a good reason to stop watching it.
