Tokyo Ravens #10 — De-Oralization

December 11th, 2013

Because Harutora is the center of everybody’s world.

Impressions:

You know, show, Oral Fixation Girl was one of the few things you’ve done with your characters thus far that I’ve actually liked without having to qualify the statement with "because it was inappropriate enough to make me laugh." A menacing character, toying with other people, slightly unhinged, willing to murder on a moment’s thought, on the better side of Japan’s rampant fetishization of everything, and oh yeah, emotional but confident. But that would probably be threatening or something to our bland lead.

So of course, reintroducing her as a member of the harem requires completely rewriting her character into blushy, insecure, squirmy, teary-eyed, and desperate to win his favor. Basically, making her the same as every single other character, but sometimes she smirks and clings to him for scene transitions. They also went out of their way to quickly dash any hope of it being a facade too. Ye gods. They didn’t even keep the oral fetish, choosing instead that the frills of her skirt bouncing around were far more interesting. How one could possibly reach that conclusion is a mystery I don’t think anybody is capable of solving.

I guess there was also some other girl that had about three minutes of screentime, like about a dozen other characters this show’s introduced and then forgotten existed. Wait, no. That one kid handed Touji his spear or something. Purpose fulfilled. Still waiting on Blondie’s, Peg-Leg Professor, That One Super Guy With a Presence from the last arc, that Other Super Guy With a Presence from the last arc, that Hobo With a Presence from the last arc, That Guy in a Car With a Presence from the last arc…

there was a lot of presence in that last arc. the hell happened to it. assuming this means you are recovering nicely

  • TrueColors says:

I don’t really see nothing wrong with her new behaviour.
She’s an idol and must act like one.
Her true behaviour is just a consequence of the accident she caused and its consequences…

    • kenuran says:

She’s become less interesting of a character as she is now for the sake of interacting with the crappy main character. Thats his point.

      • TrueColors says:

        oh, about that…
we–ll, I see nothing wrong with her becoming a possible addiction to the harem (that’s life anyway, she’s free to fall in love with any crappy char she wants), but you’re both right if you’re point is that they ruined her character with a dose of all those kawaii fetishes that japanese otaku love to spend their money into.

  • CTT says:

At least Touji’s still awesome, and this face:http://tenka.seiha.org/images2013/ravens10/57.jpg
Can’t bring myself to like his harem, but I don’t mind Harutora.

  • DevilThousand says:

    Is this even an harem?
Cousin osananajimi + loli fox familiar + former evil blondie …?
To me it looks more like:
    1) supernatural (info-dump) (dumb) action
    2) romcom with “Oblivious To Love” MC, just for those who can’t care less about 1)

  • FlameStrike says:

x.x Oral girl is still best girl. I love the way she fcks around with Harutora and Natsume. She might be a bit blushy and such now, but she still seems like the same character to me. I might like her more now since she doesn’t seem to violently unhinged (I’d rather not have my balls cut off kthx), but that’s just my personal preference.

It’s true that there are way too many important characters with PRESENCE being thrown around left and right. I almost totally forgot about the Little Girl who likes little girls by the time this ep was over!
