Sunday Without God #02 — The Gunpoint Monologues

July 13th, 2013

Shoot first, then ramble and ramble and ramble.

Fantasista Doll’s broadcast is delayed a little bit today from its already crazy late airing, so it may take a little while to pop up.

Impressions:

I was hoping this episode would come together and give the story/characters more direction… or any direction really… but alas, it seems content to ramble on to itself while enjoying the set pieces and music. Not exactly a way to make me want to see more of what happens to these characters or the world, guys. There was a particularly unpleasant five minute span in the middle where each of the protagonists in turn had a gun pointed at them. While guns are nice, after five minutes of this ‘tension’ with it obviously not going anywhere, it became clear that they were only present to add emphasis to the conversation, although ‘conversation’ is pushing it since it was more like just monologues, of which this episode was not lacking. Even at the end of the episode, we have little more than Hamham and his 12 year old Gal Friday hanging out, eating her cookies, which is thankfully not a euphemism.

Speaking of Gal Friday, she was a lot less interesting this week, falling into such nonsense as "It’s embarrassing for girls with sprained ankles to have piggy back rides! We’re jumping off things? Eeeeeeeeeh!?" which I swear to God may be the most annoying sound a human can make. And that’s when she wasn’t just being pushed around by the adults. At the moment, her entire point simply seems to be "something cute for Hamham to talk at," and she’s not even really that cute. Probably because her main personality traits are "I really, really am a grave keeper!" and staring doe-eyed at Hamham and waiting patiently for him to finish talking. Exciting!

Next Episode:

More of the same.
