Valvrave #10 — Rape: Not Just a Metaphor

And they didn’t even do that well.

Impressions:

You know, the whole "kill me" thing would make more sense… or any sense… if being bitey had any negative reprecussions whatsoever. And apparently if you hold it in too long, it turns you into a rapist. And Saki into… ugh. I hardly even remember a time when I liked her anymore. Ah, right. It’s when she wasn’t an insecure little bitch like all the rest. Anyway, once again, they broke up the formula of "nothing happens, then robots fight" this week. While last week was almost all the latter, this week was all the former. They didn’t even have a festival. They talked about having a festival later. Because apparently in between producing music videos and making snacks, they hadn’t convinced the world yet to euthanize them for their stupidity. 

Aaand that was juxtaposed with the poorest operatic rape scene that I’ve seen in a while no less. They really went all out there, waists grinding, Saki laying back and taking it lifelessly, the works. It really just looked like they were being ridiculous about the biting… until they ended up naked and traumatized… which just raises all kinds of questions of what he would have done to Elf last episode had he had his way there. It’s the kind of abrupt cut I’d expect from South Park, starting with a slap fight and then when they cut back, someone having an axe embedded in their face. Jumping from "I really want to bite anybody around me because I’m a vampire" to rape is… uh… well, certainly a sign that the writers aren’t trying very hard, but we knew that all along.

And if you’re wondering why I’m not mentioning the previous 18 minutes of the episode, it’s because there’s nothing in them. Well, except the motorcycle horn.

    You know something is wrong when you’re bored during the whole episode and when the surprise rape scene kicked in you’re still bored.

    Personally, I thought it was done pretty well. The rape scene is interleaved with Shouko’s student presidential election speech, so both hope and despair is played out back-to-back. As to the main character, I’m ure he’ll be forced to do things even WORSE before the series ends.

      He’s already killed hundreds, if not thousands, shot noncombatant scientists in the face, and raped a student/comrade in arms.

      Unless you think that baby eating is in his future, I’m not seeing how much further he could go.

        He might drop some colony, annihilate people on the moon, shoot Shouko, rape l-elf and the rest of the academy, use his friend as a parts to make another Valvrave… endless possibilities. But I guess the worst possible would still be turning into full-frontal emo.

          Not really a rip off if they explicitly state that it’s a dyson sphere. Kinda of a Dyson bubble IMO.

          Although I don’t get why he turned away from vacuums and fans to make a solar energy array.

    This is the dumbest shit. It’s like a trainwreck where all the passengers are having an orgy.

    I admit I chuckled at the “BEHOLD! GUNPLA!” scene.

    My guess about the show at this point (probably completely wrong).

    1. The whole forcing himself on her thing is due to our MC now wanting to propagate the “race” of valvrave or whatever the hell that blond eyepatch guy was talking about(still doesn’t explain why it happens around guys, maybe he just swings both ways?).
    2. The MC eventually goes full Ouma Shoe and Lelouch for some crazy plot-twist reason (probably something to do with L-Elf, or maybe Shoko actually dies when she is killed) and starts the Galactic Reich.
    3. That’s what Saki was fighting against 200 years in the future, trying to keep her promise to kill him because she’s so in love with him and he’s gone big bad.

    That’s it. Anyone else have a guess?

      4. Shouko dies or at least Haruto is made to think so again, then he does stupid shit again. Someone important finally starts working for Dorssia. Sunrise starting to go in Full Troll mode.
      5. By this point in time Haruto has ‘became a monster’ (lol at ep.1 & 2 cliche’s), turned into killer, rapist and total psycho.
      6. They get 5 or 7 valvraves pilots and the the academy gets obliterated. Most likely by Haruto. Dead bodies fly everywhere. End of the season.
      7. Time skip. Hunting. More dead bodies. Every important character dies, half human population annihilated. Urobuchi Gen appears in credits. The end.

      I hope Sunrise will continue doing the worst things in this show in the best way possible. People then will call it “The deconstruction of the mecha genre”. I love these trolls, I’m seriously thinking of once again starting watching Guilty Crown which I dropped at some point.

    The only thing i can think of at this point witch will be completely wrong is that since his unit is the only one with the female system he has to rape people because this show makes no sense and im mad they ended the episode with it like why is she okay with being raped like what.

    ok it wasn’t rape. She seemed to want it and was ok with it. He just lost control. She has wanted him since she kissed him and it was evident when she thought she would be alone with him. I just hoping this pushes shoko relationship past we both LIKE EACH BUT WANT TO HOLD IT OFF FOR NO REASON.

    I don’t get it, earlier in THE SAME EPISODE what’s-her-face kicked him in the gut and he went back to normal. Then when he starts turning into a blood(boob?)-thirsty vampire again she just stands there acting shocked. Couldn’t she have just punched/kicked him in the gut again to return him to normal?
