Karneval #05 — Pool-Waterskiing Phallus-Riding SLG

May 1st, 2013

I couldn’t think of anything interesting to say about the episode, so have this instead.

Impressions:

Maybe it’s time to go to Plan: Post a Random Blurb About Obscure Games. While I touched on last week that it fits nicely into my schedule, the other side is that with a show as uneventful as this, it’s easy to forget about entirely. Good god, if you plotted out what actually happened through the first 2/3rds of the episode, it’d be something like:
All three leave.
A goes back.
B goes back.
C goes somewhere else, but is immediately taken back.

Sum total accomplished? Gareki’s slightly more undressed for the ladies (in an undershirt I don’t even understand), and the bigger bad has shown up. Even the ‘fight’ was little more than some flashing lights while characters hovered in the air for reasons unknown to me. The wings are apparently just for show.

But perhaps the most time-stretching-tastic portion of this episode was when Gareki finally made it to the party, somehow being beaten there by everyone else. A kick in the back of the head to start things off, so we’ll finally be getting somewhere, right? Of course not. Instead, we get a nearly six minute monologue. What is supposedly a tense situation, confrontations of the past, monsters all around, flying effeminate frenchman laying bloody on the ground, and… exposition on why it supposedly matters. There were a couple punctuations with an arm cut off or someone snapping out of it long enough to try to hit him with something, but otherwise, everyone just stood around in a circle, eyes agape, mouths open, taking it all in.

I wonder what the heck “MAV” stands for?

I hated this anime since episode 1: unlikeable characters, poor visuals, stupid plot.
