Valvrave #02 — “Oh Hi. I’m Back.”

April 18th, 2013

The writing in this show is a thing of beauty.

Impressions:

Oh, Sunrise. I think this show has already made me laugh more than anything else this season, and it’s not even a comedy. I can’t even think of who could have looked at these scripts and thought that this was a good idea. So let’s summarize events once again. He’s not just a vampire, he’s a body snatcher. And once he confirms that it’s really him to his friends… by playing rock paper scissors, they hijack a helicopter and he kills some random scientists to steal the super ultimate mech and his original body. Because apparently nobody thought this crap was worth guarding against three children. Also, instead of ejecting the terrorist once he’s back in the right body, they brought him along for the ride, which predictibly went wrong, not that it actually mattered since everyone proceeded to ignore him for the rest of the episode despite the gun and hostage. So then they go flying off into space to fight when what should happen but his girlfriend call him to let him know that she’s apparently just fine, at which point he goes into ultimate heat mode omega deluxe turbo dentyne lite. And in the end, enemy chased off and reunited with his girlfriend? He immediately begins crying because the guy whose body he stole called him a monster.

Sure, I expected her to be alive, but I didn’t expect them to just pull her back so soon and with such little fanfare after his screaming fit barely… uh… about 10 minutes prior if you string the episodes together. Like, seriously. His phone just rings and it’s her. And… that’s it! Good lord. He showed more emotion to the terrorist guy calling him a monster, something that he apparently hadn’t quite realized yet despite spending an entire day in it and chewing on necks, than his girlfriend being alive. Forcing terrorist guy onto the protagonist’s side like that was kind of clever though, but let’s not forget that he did already murder a bunch of people, although given the apparently lack of security in all aspects of this setting, that may yet go undiscovered for another 18 episodes. They did a bit better job on the CG/action this week too, although the mecha look like someone ripped a robot in half and then dropped them onto the front half of a canoe. Or maybe a yacht. In any case, the thought going through my mind wasn’t "Wow, this is cool!" but something more like "Not even Dr. Wily would use this."

Limey!

G;C all over again… I hope MC changes.
Shoko has short hair and a childhood friend, thats a dead giveaway that shes gonna lose…

  • Jinzilla says:

MC’s soul gem is going to turn into a grief seed.

  • Chevalier says:

“I can’t even think of who could have looked at these scripts and thought that this was a good idea. ”

A person who knows you shouldn’t take this seriously and knows in what mindset most of the audience is going to watch this.

    Best show of the season.

  • Twi says:

…You know, I had hopes for this protagonist when he started shooting people. But seriously, letting the guy who stabbed you in the heart and put two rounds into you calling you a monster shake you up when everyone is seems cool with it is just ridiculous.

With the emotional response he got from the assassin, you’d think they were paired up instead of him and the not-dead girl…then again, the Code Geass team is behind this right?

    • Chevalier says:

Twi: Team implies more than one person.

Only one person from Code Geass is working on this (the writer). Not the director, not anyone else.

Only two episodes in and here we are, this show will reach some impressive trainwreck level by the time it will end.

  • Yzlot says:

Well, the series had an…interesting start. The second episode definitely by far was disappointing. I mean, besides the MC making incredibly rash and stupid decisions, I found the character development of L-Elf particularly weak. I mean cmon, as the ace of a group of terrorists you’d expect him to have some balls and do something besides being reduced to directing questions towards the MC. Even better, he’s used to explain how the Valvrave works. Great. For what seems to be an important character in the show, he sure is docile, and a hypocrite. Well, maybe the following episodes may be better.

I love how excited he is by the fact that shes alive. Hes like “yes! gunna get that vjj.” In the middle of getting shot at. Also, what woman is going to want to be with you after you just murdered a bunch of people in her name. Creepy.

  • so, what is this show about?
someone who ride an autoplay bot or something?

I don’t think anyone actually knows what it is about.
