Young Justice: Invasion #14 — Shocking Turns of Events
February 2nd, 2013
Wow! He was evil after all! I am completely surprised!
In case you missed the news, the show’s been confirmed as canceled at the end of the season… or given the shenanigans with the broadcast, whenever they run out of episodes because they put it on another random hiatus. I wonder if the two could be related in any way. Naaaaaah.
Impressions:
The moment he was all "We’ve got to get you to Green Beetle!" (to which the question of why was never really answered) the rest of the events of the episode were pretty boringly predictible. I don’t know why or if it was unfounded too, but I expected better from Virgil as well. Not that Static Shock’s wit was a match for Spidey’s or anything, but if they wanted every other sentence out of his mouth to be something pithy about family love, then they should’ve been couching him as something other than dumb angry teen. It was just a kind of bizarrely joyless episode all around in a show that usually at least tries to be witty, which also wasn’t making any of the characters any more likeable at all. I think Black Beetle was the only one who even had a quip and it was just about meat again.
I guess at least they cut off the stuff with Green Beetle sooner rather than later, but it still doesn’t change that this surprise betrayal was anything but. The Lex stuff at the end was honestly just about the only thing that didn’t make me roll my eyes and just be glad we were moving on, buuuuut then we get back to one of the big issues of the first season in that they have all these plots within plots of the bad guys all in the last 30 seconds of episodes where they all just kind of spin around in circles looking meaningful while doing nothing.
