Amnesia #01 — Attack of the Eyeless Bullies
January 7th, 2013
And why does everyone dress like a Final Fantasy refuge?
I’m cutting Sakurasou free. Mostly because I really don’t want to cover 4 shows this morning. This week’s episode began with Mashiro’s turn at existential angst and ended with a montage that included her hugging her knees against their chest in a dark room. So, you know, despite the new OP/ED, it’s straight ahead through moronic melodrama seas. That’s just about enough of you, Okada.
Impressions:
I kind of liked the directing in the opening scene. Apparently though, the director only wanted to work 15 minutes that day though because the other 20 or so minutes of the episode was pretty much just talking heads. And we have our protagonist just sitting there looking confused, so you can’t even call it conversation, just her being talked at. Exciting. Her most significant contribution was repeating a random word from the last sentence and adding a question mark to keep the ‘conversation’ moving. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Brains Base simply copied the game’s script and then pissed off.
As the talking heads comment probably suggests, it was not technically well-made either. The music was mostly okay, I guess, not sharing the blaring problems many other shows have had this season… except for the sponsor’s card for some bizarre reason, and since this aired on AT-X, it was blank anyway. Just… after the soft OP, HELLO NO SPONSORS AND LOUD CHIMES. And since that made more of an impact on me than the entire rest of the episode, you can probably imagine how engaging it is. There was also a CG door at one point amid the parade of bishies. Oh, and a stills montage. Of her working at her little cafe. The only even notable parts were the foreshadowing in the first 30 seconds or so and oh no, bullying in the last. By eyeless girls cutting her hair, which triggers her possum reflex and she apparently passes out. Fantastico.
So boring talking heads, poor production, and nothing interesting happens. It’s the trifecta!
