Young Justice: Invasion #08 — Disarmed

September 29th, 2012

Everybody’s losing arms!

I haven’t decided yet if I’ll continue on with this, but I’ve got a spare chunk of time between shows today, so may as well. We’ll see what my mood’s like once the next season actually kicks off. There’s a couple actual maybe-decent looking Saturday shows this season, unlike when I originally began, but we’ll see

Impressions:

Not too bad, although I really don’t know what the purpose of the Captain Cold bit was supposed to be aside from incredibly corny. I guess it was meant to be an oblique way to show characters ‘mourning’ Artemis as well as reveal that Rocket is apparently getting married, but it was still out of place as all hell between all the moping and revenging. Also, Captain Cold? Really? Robbing an armored truck? In front of a superhero bridal shower? Really? I thought we got all the cold-based villains out of our system in the first season anyway.

They did a decent job in the Roy/Mercy fight at least, considering one is a cyborg with a laser arm and the other couldn’t tie his shoes. I still miss the snarky and arrogant Mercy in her original form though. The ending to it I’m not so sure of. "I want revenge for stealing my arm and eight years. You must die! Oh? You got me a robot arm? That’s even better! Now nobody will ever beat me again!" Unless, you know, someone gets the drop on him, someone beats him like he beat Mercy, or Luthor just makes another robo-arm. Yes, I get that it was either the arm or dying, but it was still a poor excuse for looking that surprised or be acting that smug about it.

2 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

I thought the new Robin was Jason Todd. I’m starting to hate time-skips.

They’ve been calling him Tim in the credits AND the show ever since the first episode of season 2. Also, Jason never used a bo staff in the comics. So, whatever led you to think that?
