Joshiraku #13 — Suddenly… Ryoko Shintani!

September 27th, 2012

Oh, Milfeulle. What are you up to now?

Unrelated to anything, but Galactica is really going balls out with their upcoming game. Probably trying to jumpstart a new franchise since Koihime’s likely starting to run dry. Also, new Tank Girls CM at the end of either Sister Boffing or SenColle. I didn’t delve further. This ended with a Civ Blaster CM.

Impressions:

In a true rarity for this show, the first segment was the strongest by far. Okay, it was a little overly self-referential (about the show ending), but it’s certainly done far worse than having a hyperactive Ryoko Shintani character show up and torture the characters for 8 straight minutes, including her own 4-part brief solo rendition of the OP. That’s a healthy dose of energy and general insanity that that the show usually lacks.

Unfortunately, the second two parts were fairly weak. And continued the self-referential nonsense. At least they tortured glasses instead of Mary for once. Although she didn’t really look like she had been reinvented as a policegirl so much as an overly make-upped stripper. The end of the episode was also just really really lame. They could’ve at least tried to go out on a high note, or blown up the planet. Or told a joke. Oh well. The first segment still made it better than most episodes.

Final Thoughts:

Frequently bland, occasionally funny, largely just inconsistent. Well, except for those damn middle segments. I swear that they only existed for the artists to give the girls crazy new casualwear. The show was at its best when it was fully relishing in terrible puns and outright slapstick and true parody. When it did do that, the show could be quite amusing. When it didn’t and instead chose to just go from one nonsequitor to another, more often than not based on just some small lingual thing, it was… not so amusing. Also, simply throwing up a reference is not a joke, damn it. I’m not sure that there were overall enough good segments to make the entire package worth watching, but there’s enough so that it’s enjoyable enough on occasion.

Everything is better with Ryoko Shintani, except for Amagami.
